Chapter 1013 - 769: Another Upgrade
The other party was slightly startled, as he had never expected someone to dare challenge the guard squad.
"So be it..." The other party sneered coldly, raising his hand, a golden device fell onto Long Yi’s wrist, and all at once, Long Yi felt that he couldn’t manifest any mana.
"In all my years, I’ve never seen anyone dare to challenge the guard squad. Once I bring you back to the black prison, I’m going to have to tell my friends about this, quite the novelty," said the man, seemingly quite pleased with himself.
"Never seen anyone challenge the guard squad? So, have you ever seen someone beat up the guard squad?"
A punch, sudden as lightning, connected heavily with the nose of one of the guards, and from the feel of it, Long Yi was certain it must have been flattened. The man was sent reeling back into two others behind him, while Long Yi directly lunged at the other two, a punch for each, knocking them all to the ground instantly. The two who had been knocked down hadn’t even managed to get up before getting punched again and falling down anew.
Five men, none even had a chance to cast a single spell before Long Yi had knocked them all to the ground. Such a sudden turn of events left the overseer dumbfounded right then and there.
Long Yi raised his hand, and with a snap, he broke the device.
"He thought Brother Long would be finished without casting spells? Fool!"
Long Yi curled his lips, flashed a smile at the overseer, then turned and left, and Ai Lin along with the other four girls followed behind him, leaving with light laughter.
The overseer hurried to check on the guard squad, only to find that all five of them had passed out.
"No, I must report this to Master Solis!"
The overseer said in haste.
Long Yi left without any concern over the incident, heading straight for the next Development Institute.
"How did it go, did you get something?" Long Yi asked through the contract.
"We’ve pretty much got the outline of this spell, and it’s very likely aimed at controlling Crystal Poison to spawn Crystal Cores, or controlling Crystal Cores," Ai Lin said.
"Does that mean someone’s trying to create Crazy Demons?" Long Yi asked.
"Maybe, maybe not, it’s hard to say at this point. But what about you, Brother Long, isn’t stirring up trouble like this going to bring you a major headache?" Ai Lin asked.
"Bringing trouble is exactly what I want, if we just wait like this, who knows how long it will take to find information on the ’God Chasers.’ Isrile and Ruosha are waiting for us in the middle plane! Let’s sort out the issues here quickly, so we can find the Teleportation Gate and leave this place!" Long Yi said.
"Just hope it won’t attract too big of a mess," Silverlight said with some concern.
"I reckon that farmer uncle must be someone with some ability, to be level nineteen! I wonder who’s the strongest person in the Ancient Mage Tower," Little Zi said.
"Maybe that old guy is Elma!" Long Yi said with a laugh.
"How could that be! If he were Elma would he still be stuck there feeling aggrieved?" Ai Lin promptly dismissed Long Yi’s daydream.
"I was just speaking off the cuff." Long Yi said with a grin.
The next two visits went smoothly, and Ai Lin and the others finally completed all the spells. Just as Ai Lin had speculated, the spell was indeed for controlling Crystal Poison to generate Crystal Cores. Through the magic spell, the originally autonomously generated Crystal Cores became controllable, and these consciousness-lacking Crystal Cores would obey orders.
If Belle were here, all this would be very simple. But with the current spell, they could only complete a few steps.
"I’ll tell you the spell, Ai Lin you make a slight modification and then hand it over to them," Long Yi instructed.
"What about you?"
"I now need to think about how to deal with the people looking for trouble next."
Defying the guard squad was no small crime, and Long Yi had not only defied them, but had also gone as far as to physically assault the guards! Among the more than one hundred thousand people in the Ancient Mage Tower, there had been those who dared to defy the guard squad but ended up with very tragic outcomes. Yet today, Long Yi not only defied the guard squad but also knocked out five guards! Such an act was beyond belief.
The Ancient Mage Tower wasn’t large, and news spread quickly, with the guard squad furiously arresting people everywhere. Unfortunately, Long Yi was nowhere to be seen. The guards, unable to find him, had no choice but to turn to Ai Lin and the others, but when they reached the magic Development Institute where Ai Lin was, she professed complete ignorance.
"I don’t know where he’s from; I don’t know why he took us; I don’t know where he’s gone," Ai Lin replied flawlessly, for from beginning to end, the one who truly defied the guard squad had been Long Yi alone, and Ai Lin and the girls hadn’t said a word, thus leaving the guard squad with no excuse to cause them trouble.
Where did Long Yi go?
Of course, he returned to the farm.
This place was like a hidden paradise, even that old man didn’t frequent it often; hiding here essentially meant one wouldn’t be discovered.
"So, you ran off to hide here after causing trouble?" Elma asked with a weird smile on his face.
"How was I to know that the level ten you gave me would have its limitations? They said their Development Institute reports directly to Master Solis. You told me that Solis himself named me to come to the Ancient Mage Tower, but I haven’t seen a shadow of him yet. Isn’t it outrageous that I can’t even go to his territory? Did he bring me here just to play me?"
Long Yi rambled on and on.
"Impossible, I think he doesn’t have that much free time to specifically mess with you," Elma said.
"In any case, this level was given to me by you. I simply wanted to show off to my girlfriends a bit, and now I can’t accept being hunted down by a bunch of guards," Long Yi bluntly sulked.
Elma laughed. He had already known about Long Yi’s face-off with the guard squad as soon as it happened. Being the true master of the Ancient Mage Tower, his intelligence network was exceptionally broad, so he also immediately considered that Long Yi would surely come back to him. Anyway, Long Yi had been of more help to him, and indeed, as Long Yi said, the levels he had been boosted to should have granted him unobstructed access everywhere.
Could it be that Solis’s reach has extended this far?
"Well, how about I upgrade your level again?"
Saying that, Elma directly upgraded Long Yi’s level to twelve!
"At level twelve, you are on the same level as the head of a Development Institute. The guard squad’s authority won’t be able to punish you. How does that sound?"
"Great! I just love high levels! Hahaha!" Long Yi immediately cheered up.
As Long Yi left again, an old man gradually materialized beside Elma: "Master Elma, do you think this Long Yi might have some sort of scheme?"
"A scheme?" Elma shook his head, "I’ve already investigated this Long Yi thoroughly. He’s an upstart genius on the surface, having climbed up mostly through battle. In his mind, only the one with the harder fist has the greater say. I’m not sure what Solis means by sending him to the Ancient Mage Tower, but so far, there’s been no contact between Long Yi and Solis. What’s more, Long Yi has actually been quite helpful to me. I think you’re worrying too much."
The old man nodded then added, "Lately, Master Solis has been keenly researching how to control the Crazy Demons, which appears to be an attempt to weaponize the Crystal Poison. I believe this contradicts the teachings of our Ancient Mage Tower."
Elma’s expression instantly turned solemn: "He had previously suggested wanting to study the Crystal Poison, and I opposed it. But as my lifespan was nearing its end, he extended my life through this Crystal Poison device. I was confused and ended up leading the support for his proposal. Now it seems I really was deceived. The more dependent I grow on the Crystal Poison, the more I feel controlled by him. But now it’s different; with Long Yi’s help, I’m no longer frail. Once I’ve fully recovered, I’ll show Solis why I am the true master of the Ancient Mage Tower!"
Level twelve!
When Long Yi reappeared, the level twelve insignia practically blinded the eyes of the person in charge of the Magic Development Institute, where Ai Lin was. This person was also at level twelve and had planned to stay put here for a while to prevent incidents like what happened with Long Yi from occurring again. However, when Long Yi showed up with the level twelve insignia, the person in charge was left without recourse.
"Don’t look so down, tell me, didn’t we solve a difficult magic issue after I took them out last time?" Long Yi asked the person in charge.
"Well... that is true," the person in charge had to admit that after Ai Lin and the others returned, the troublesome piece of magic was swiftly resolved.
"So, you see, you should be thanking me," Long Yi said with a grin.
"I, thank you?" the person in charge retorted.
"Don’t mention it!" Long Yi patted the other person’s shoulder and said.
"I..." the person in charge was left speechless.
Right at that moment, the guard squad had also arrived upon hearing the news. The leader was the very person Long Yi had first knocked down that day; his nose was still slightly swollen, for it had not fully recovered. They barged through the doors rudely, and without a word, charged at Long Yi upon seeing him, but the outcome was no different from last time. Long Yi’s Mana was locked again, and the opposition kept casting magic, yet relying on brute strength and superior fighting skills, Long Yi endured the magic and began to fight back.
It wasn’t until all twenty members of the guard squad were knocked to the ground by Long Yi that he finally raised his hand and showed the insignia on his backhand to the fallen guard captain.
"Level twelve, this matter is out of your hands now."
The eyes of the guard captain brimmed with confusion. What was going on? How did he suddenly become level twelve? He was clearly only level ten!
In the Ancient Mage Tower, levels could absolutely not be faked.
If they had known he was already at level twelve, why would they have even fought? The guard captain felt like crying. (To be continued.
