Chapter 1039 - 792: Advanced Mage?
The Guardian was startled and hastily cast a spell to blast Long Yi away. However, Long Yi was extremely agile, and his understanding of spells made his movements even more precise. Those spells couldn’t touch him at all.
"Electric Shock Technique!"
The Guardian released a single-target spell, and lightning arcs passing through the golden ring immediately turned into countless dancing silver snakes, entangling Long Yi.
"Static Electricity Shield!"
The Static Electricity Shield was a high-end defensive magic from the Human Realm. It formed an electric shell around the body, using one’s own mana to completely negate the effects of electric shocks. Although it consumed more mana, it could immunize one against the stiffening effects of electric shocks.
Finally, Long Yi reached the Guardian’s side.
"Dark Binding!"
Black energy completely enveloped the Guardian, who immediately became unable to move.
"Thunderstrike Impact!"
There weren’t many spells in the lightning category. The Electric Shock Technique attacked the enemy with a bolt of lightning from the palm; the Thunderstrike struck the enemy with lightning from the sky. Thunderstrike Impact was much more complex, creating a lightning trap on the ground while gathering the power of lightning in the sky, and after a few seconds, the trap brought down all the lightning brewing in the sky. It caused widespread damage and resulted in stiffening.
The Array formed, and while being restrained, the Guardian had no way to avoid it. He could only watch helplessly as the Array finally took effect, pinning him down, while the thunder in the sky was fully brewed!
"Let’s see how you plan to dodge this time," Long Yi said.
Long Yi took a half step back to prevent being affected by the lightning. However, at that moment, the Ancient Mage Tower Guardian gave a slight smile, "This is what I plan to do."
As he spoke, the golden ring in his hand suddenly expanded, completely absorbing him, just as the thunder descended. The sky filled with thunderbolts hammered down on the golden ring, yet it caused no effect whatsoever.
As the thunder faded, the golden ring suddenly flickered with light, and the Guardian leaped out from it.
"What else do you have, continue," the Guardian waved at Long Yi.
"Are you provoking me?" Long Yi laughed.
"Yes, I am provoking you. Any other spells you have, try them out. But as long as I have my golden ring, you can’t harm me in the slightest," the Guardian said with a laugh.
"Is that so? I doubt that," Long Yi said, pointing at the sky where an Array had already taken shape. On the ground, a huge gravity trap was formed by black crystalline growths.
"Darkness Descending? Useless!"
Almost at the same time, the Guardian was again absorbed by the golden ring. At the same time, Long Yi rushed over and grabbed the golden ring in his hand. Just when everyone thought Long Yi was about to perform some kind of countermeasure, he instead turned the golden ring upside down. Dark matter fell from the sky, crashing heavily onto the ground. The golden ring remained undamaged, but the dark matter didn’t disperse; instead, it firmly pressed down on the golden ring.
"Haven’t you thought that you might never be able to come out again?" Long Yi crouched nearby, watching as the golden ring was repeatedly pried open a crack, while pleas for help and sounds of surrender came from inside.
As the dark matter vanished, the Guardian clumsily jumped out from the golden ring.
The Guardian looked at Long Yi, frustrated, and said, "You won by a fluke. If this were a real battlefield..."
"If this were a real battlefield, you would have been smashed by my Cosmic Stone Greatsword long ago," Long Yi interrupted his resentful retort to inform him of this fact.
The Ancient Mage Tower Guardian shook his head and left without saying anything more.
Next was the competition to advance to the semifinals. Long Yi finally encountered the so-called senior combat mage. Until now, Long Yi had always imagined a senior combat mage to be strong and fierce looking. But when he saw the person in front of him, he was taken aback.
Ado? That so-called high-level combat spellcaster was Ado? This was a surprise to Long Yi.
Ado was one of the first few people Long Yi had met inside the Ancient Mage Tower. Because they hadn’t interacted much, Long Yi didn’t have much of an opinion about Ado. All this time, he had seen Ado as nothing but dull, not at all like he was now.
How to describe it? He looked even duller now!
At that moment, Ado appeared utterly devoid of spirit in his eyes, which had lost all focus. Although he had grown somewhat taller, his figure was slightly hunched, standing there as if he were a puppet.
In each hand, he grasped a short staff, each head inlaid with a massive crystal stone—not fragments of the Cosmic Stone, but rather two Crystal Cores.
Indeed, just as Zulal had warned, this so-called high-level battle mage was using the power of Crystal Poison to enhance himself.
But even with the power of Crystal Poison, how much stronger could you possibly become?
When the starting bell rang, there was a sudden and eerie burst of light in Ado’s previously lifeless eyes. His stooped figure seemed to grow taller, and his body even swelled slightly, appearing more robust!
"Roar!" Ado let out a beast-like roar, swinging his short staves repeatedly. An array of magic, devoid of any apparent pattern, was cast, including some that traditionally could not be instantly cast.
Long Yi was caught off guard and forced into passive defense. Ado’s attack grew even fiercer, showing no signs of slowing, pushing Long Yi into a rather sorry state of defense.
Aimondeus, watching secretly from the shadows, couldn’t help but be exceedingly excited since it was the first real combat experience for the high-level battle mage. Although Ado had defeated many opponents before, only Long Yi was a true powerhouse. If Ado could triumph over Long Yi in this battle, it would be sufficient to prove the potential of a high-level battle mage!
With the power of Crystal Poison, he had prepared various spells in advance, which could be released against an enemy at a moment’s notice. The speed was extreme, the power immense; ordinary people would definitely not stand a chance. And now, it seemed even powerhouses could not resist!
Facing the barrage of spells like torrential rain, Long Yi felt utterly uncomfortable.
You show up without a greeting and now you play with fire suppression in silence? Do you think I’m scared of your suppression?
"Magic Dispel!"
Long Yi immediately released Mana Dispel, vanishing the oppressive magic around him. Swinging his Cosmic Stone staff, he bellowed, "You want to play a magic bombardment game with me? Bring it on!"
Thus began the least technical fight in the entirety of the competition. Both parties completely abandoned defense, unreservedly casting various spells, with the roars of colorful explosions sounding non-stop. Not only that, both of them advanced step by step against the onslaught of the other’s spells!
Even Aimondeus was stunned by the spectacle. This Long Yi was indeed fierce to the point of recklessness, capable of a high-speed spell exchange with a high-level battle mage and not at the slightest disadvantage?
Long Yi noticed that glinting particles were sporadically appearing on Ado’s skin. Those must be crystals of Crystal Poison, which shattered immediately after forming, turning into energy that sustained Ado’s magic. Long Yi was seeing this method of spell operation for the first time, which meant Solis, or rather the God Chasers, had a particular technique for using Crystal Poison.
Aimondeus also realized Long Yi’s strength, noticing that not only was he resisting Ado’s assault, but he was also slowly turning the tide!
"Ado, intensify the offensive! Stop the magic suppression!" Aimondeus covertly commanded Ado through a special means. In the arena, Ado immediately halted his assault and braced himself against Long Yi’s spells, concentrating on forming a mid-size magic!
Just at that moment, Little Zi paused for a second.
"I’ve discovered someone commanding Ado; I’m going to check it out," Little Zi said, slowly vanishing from sight.
Ado began using combined magic techniques, and his spell connections could be described as flawless compared to the mages Long Yi had encountered before. Every spell’s effects were maximized. Long Yi’s offense met obstacles due to such perfect spell casting, but soon, Long Yi discovered a problem.
His spells were connected too perfectly, making them inflexible and machine-like, as if a robot was casting them.
Long Yi attempted to interfere, but found that Ado continued to cast in the most perfect rhythm, irrelevant of the disturbance which should have rendered such a rhythm nonexistent!
Aimondeus, watching secretly, couldn’t help but shake his head. As expected, these high-level battle mages had obvious flaws—the lack of flexibility and adaptability was one of them.
"Ado, lift the seal, use the strongest form to attack!" Aimondeus gave the direct order. He needed Ado to defeat Long Yi, and although he was well aware that the strongest form was unstable, any risk was worth taking for victory.
Just as he issued this command, Little Zi suddenly appeared behind him: "I’ve been wondering why I constantly felt like I was being watched. I thought it was just my charm increasing lately, making me overly sensitive. I didn’t expect you, a shady person, to be hiding here." Little Zi’s laughter startled Aimondeus, who literally jumped. Seeing it was Little Zi, his expression turned sour immediately. Little Zi was a Female Demon, and a powerful one at that. Ordinary mages stood no chance against a Female Demon, and even powerful mages might fall into their hands without special mental defenses.
Ever since seeing Little Zi, Aimondeus had significantly reinforced his mental resistance. But even when finally facing her, he was still not entirely confident in his defenses.
"Get out! This is not a place for you! Female Demon minion!" Aimondeus shouted, hoping the Guardians outside would hear.
"Don’t bother shouting. Those guys are fast asleep," Little Zi said with a mischievous grin. (To be continued.
