Chapter 1042 - 795: Creating Life
Mental training was tedious and boring. While it was fun at first to create things haphazardly, the constant creation and the consistent need to improve the accuracy of those creations soon started to annoy, much like the irritability that comes after sustained concentration.
However, since it was training, the purpose was to overcome this irritability.
Actually, there was a very simple way to do this.
That was, to create a life.
Starting with the genes.
This was probably something that could only be done in this mental world.
The Giant’s knowledge contained many genetic sequences of life. Long Yi initially chose a life form with one hundred thousand genes, but he quickly collapsed. Because to reconstruct these genes in the mental world, you must constantly memorize their sequences in your mind.
A total of one hundred thousand pairs!
That was simply impossible!
Therefore, Long Yi had to look for an alternative.
He chose a simple one, which was a virus.
So simple that it had only a thousand genes. Long Yi imagined himself as an extremely tiny individual, then began to arrange nucleic acid molecules. Although there were just a mere thousand pairs of genes, the order of their arrangement still nearly cost Long Yi his sanity. He was on the verge of exploding several times, but his strong self-control as a warrior allowed him to hold back.
Time passed, and the genetic sequence was finally assembled without any mistakes.
Then came the protein shell. For a simplest virus, the protein shell was much easier. There was no order of arrangement to worry about, it was just about clustering together in a certain shape.
Finally, a virus was born in Long Yi’s hands.
Long Yi held the virus in one hand and felt an urge to laugh.
According to the Giant’s records, this virus would trigger an extremely lethal disease, destroying the nervous system of those infected within a week. Yet now, it rested in his hand.
Before entering a cell, the virus had no activity; it was just a bunch of proteins.
The process of constructing a life from molecules was deadly, but the joy of success was extraordinary.
"I don’t know why, but I’m starting to understand why Giants also like to create life," Long Yi stated, turning his head to the side only to see Yavenny looking at him with a face full of horror. Long Yi curiously glanced down at his own body and found himself wearing a strange white robe, upon which golden marks floated and flowed, emitting a strange Resonance. His hands, without knowing when, had turned pure black, like the shadow itself, revealing no solid form. Little stars twinkled and flowed within the shadowy blackness.
"What’s wrong with me?" Long Yi asked Yavenny beside him, as he took a step forward. However, Yavenny prostrated herself on the ground, completely afraid to look up!
What on earth was going on?
Long Yi dissipated the virus he just created, then conjured up a Mirror Image. Almost at the same time, he was startled by his own reflection.
Pure white robes, flowing Runes, a white hood casting an unseen face in shadow, with only two nebulae rotating in place of his eyes.
Behind him was a massive emblem made of golden lightning that changed shape continually, defying three-dimensional understanding, surrounded by a series of inscriptions that Long Yi could not recognize, clueless about their meaning.
"Could this image be... a god?" Combining Yavenny’s reaction with his own speculation, Long Yi could not help but make this guess. At nearly the same moment, he confirmed this guess himself, because Divine Status was telling him this. Divine Status was the qualification for godhood. Long Yi had obtained this small part of Divine Status from a Divine Envoy, which had always been lying latent there, slowly providing him with Divine Power. He never thought that this Divine Status might have any other use. But now, Long Yi could be certain that Divine Status might be more significant than he imagined.
Long Yi tried to imagine himself returning to normal in his consciousness but failed.
"The influence of Divine Status is greater than I thought."
Long Yi shook his head, then forcefully left his mental space.
It was now late at night, with the girls around him deep in sleep. Long Yi didn’t disturb them, instead waiting a few minutes before reentering his mental space.
This time, Long Yi saw Yavenny curled up in the corner. When Long Yi appeared, she was visibly startled. But when she saw clearly that it was Long Yi, she let out a sigh of relief.
"Kid, you really scared me just now," Yavenny said with an unnatural smile on her face, trying to ease her own emotions.
"What did you see just now?" Long Yi asked.
"When you had just finished creating that virus, the Divine Status gathered around you. You began to show divinity, and because of the level suppression, I couldn’t stand to be there. As you just saw, I could only cower there, trembling," Yavenny said with a touch of self-mockery.
"But I didn’t feel anything," Long Yi said.
"Fortunately, you didn’t feel anything. At that moment, if anyone stood here, they would have been absolutely unable to defy your will. Your commands would have been carried out without question, even if they left your realm of consciousness, because that is the decree of a god," Yavenny said.
"So even you can’t explain to me what just happened?" Long Yi asked.
"I cannot explain it at all. In fact, I am about to leave your consciousness realm right now. I need to present everything that just happened to my true self in its entirety. I must understand what exactly occurred," Yavenny stated.
"Will you come back then?"
"Under normal circumstances, if you had asked me this, I would definitely have teased you about it. But I’m sorry, I’m really not in the mood for that right now. Moreover, I don’t know if I will come back again—because it seems your consciousness space is far more dangerous than the outside world. However, you don’t need to worry; I have left all your training plans here. Just continue according to the plan. After you subdue the God Chasers, I should appear again. Of course, by then I should appear in physical form."
Yavenny appeared somewhat dispirited. It was an unprecedented situation for her. The recent event had a significant impact, and although only a projection, she was a complete replica of Yavenny’s consciousness, so her reactions were equivalent to Yavenny’s.
Watching the figure that was gradually fading away, Long Yi couldn’t help but sigh deeply.
No, I have to figure out what’s going on!
Long Yi once again created the virus from before, but this time there were no changes to himself.
After several more attempts, it was still the same.
Well, does that mean only the first success counts?
Long Yi then selected a new virus from the Giant’s genetic sample bank. This one was slightly more complex than the previous virus, but only marginally more difficult. And as they were both viruses, most of their nucleic acid structures were similar, thus Long Yi was able to complete the construction of the entire virus in less than one-tenth of the time it had taken initially.
When everything was finished, the Mirror Image of himself finally underwent a tremendous transformation.
Firstly, his skin gradually lost its color, turning to shades of black and white, then it slowly dimmed, becoming pure black, and eventually losing its contours, looking like a shadow. Stars appeared within the blackness, and a white robe manifested out of thin air with runes flowing over it. Behind him, the Power of Rules formed into a badge that flowed once again.
Because he was attentive this time, Long Yi finally understood how all this had happened.
Whenever Long Yi created a lifeform, the dormant Divine Status within him would automatically activate. To the Divine Status, the act of creating life was godly work, reserved only for gods. Since Long Yi had accomplished the feat of creating life, the Divine Status would naturally make its presence known.
However, something entirely unexpected also occurred at the same time.
He discovered that the Divine Status seemed to have strengthened ever so slightly.
Not much, just a tiny bit.
Could it be an illusion?
Long Yi immediately began experimenting, creating four viruses in a row using the genetic material blueprint. And when it all ended, Long Yi could clearly feel that the Divine Status had become much stronger than before!
This was definitely not an illusion! Even the speed of Divine Power recovery had increased!
Could it be that Divine Status can also grow?
Long Yi was very puzzled. Initially, the Divine General had split her Divine Status into 99,999 parts, and Long Yi didn’t believe she did it out of boredom. She definitely had a purpose.
Long Yi had thought that to fully restore Divine Status, it could only be done by collecting all the divided pieces. But unexpectedly, the Divine Status could actually strengthen on its own! And the way to enhance it was by creating life!
Clearly, such life had once existed, and Long Yi was not the first to create it. But the Divine Status didn’t seem to care about these details; every time Long Yi created a virus, the Divine Status would strengthen a bit more.
All through the night, Long Yi was so immersed in creation that he couldn’t extricate himself, and even when Ai Lin awakened him in the morning, his mind was still filled with thoughts of creation. He even insisted on staying within the realm of consciousness and was reluctant to leave.
Little Zi looked at Long Yi and frowned slightly. Suddenly, she launched a Mental Impact at Long Yi. Struck by the massive impact, Long Yi fell straight to the ground and took a long time to regain his senses.
"Creating life is so exciting! I’m even becoming a bit addicted!" Long Yi exclaimed in surprise.
"If it was so exciting, why did you go to bed so early last night?" Little Zi glanced at Long Yi and remarked.
Long Yi froze for a moment, completely not getting the naughty implications in Little Zi’s insinuations.
"Brother Long, you seem a bit off," Little Zi said with a frown.
"What do you mean by off?" Long Yi was unaware.
"Everything’s off. Usually, if I made such a naughty joke, you would pounce on me like a wild wolf. But not only did you not pounce, you didn’t even understand what I was saying." (To be continued.
