Chapter 1080 - 833: Combining Strengths
"Fight one on one?" Ai Lin asked.
"Of course!"
A fight could prove one’s strength better than anything else, and Long Yi, being a warrior at heart, understood warriors’ thoughts better than anyone. Battle, killing enemies, and triumphing over adversaries were the only ways a warrior could prove themselves.
Long Yi and Ai Lin went to their respective emperors to suggest a friendship match, and the overconfident emperors agreed immediately after minor consideration, eager to test their warriors’ strength through the contest!
Thus, on that afternoon, twenty Sanctuary warriors from The Divine Auffa Empire and twenty Divine Armor warriors from the Sanctuary Empire arrived at the arena.
The contest was carried out in secret, with both sides bringing few people. Though confident in their warriors, both emperors had simultaneously chosen to keep a low profile.
After all, the world is full of surprises.
The warriors took their positions; those from The Divine Auffa Empire synchronized took out their wands from their personal spaces, running mana to its limit, with rings of Auffa magic springing up behind them. The overwhelming tide of mana burst forth, resplendent with light.
Saint Jialin, looking proud, glanced at Saint Danze, and even though he hadn’t seen the improved Divine Armor himself, he believed it could not possibly outshine the dazzling line-up of Sanctuary mages!
Saint Danze, however, simply smiled and shook his head as the warriors from the Sanctuary Empire uniformly summoned the improved version of Divine Armor from their personal spaces.
The massive, over five-meter tall figures exuded a sense of strength, kneeling in unison to lift the warriors into the cockpits at their chests. Then deeply enforced armor encased them, the rune armor around all the Divine Armor warriors lit up, and surprisingly, rings of Auffa magic sprang up behind them as well!
They too possessed Sanctuary strength!
Saint Danze looked proudly at Saint Jialin, who was unfazed and said, "No matter what, this is not strength from within. When it comes to battle, my Sanctuary warriors are stronger!"
Saint Danze laughed and responded, "You should suggest your warriors discard their wands before making such a statement. Both are reliant on magical equipment, just to differing extents. Ultimately, it’s the outcome on the battlefield that counts!"
Saint Jialin agreed, "If that’s the case, let’s see what the outcome will be."
The battle began immediately, dazzling magic colliding and filling everyone’s sight from the first moment. Various spells danced across the sky; as both sides possessed Sanctuary strength, the spells were terrifyingly powerful, startling the onlookers out of their chairs with massive vibrations that had urgently cleared the food and drinks from the tables.
The two sides seemed to be evenly matched.
Compared, the warriors from The Divine Auffa Empire were more agile. With their excellent individual strength, they executed various spells beautifully, despite not having enough time to adapt to the sudden increase in their power. Agile movements, strategic spell choice, plus the seamless boost in power ensured their overwhelming offensive capability in battle.
Looking at the warriors from the Sanctuary Empire, while their voluminous Divine Armor imposed great pressure, their size made them less maneuverable, often hit directly by enemy spells. Most of the explosions on the battlefield were centered on them.
But, the biggest advantage for the Divine Armor over ordinary people was its robustness.
The full-body rune armor significantly reduced magical damage, beneath which lay thick rigid armor, and within that, a soft cushioning layer. This triple-layered protection allowed the warriors inside to totally ignore the barrage outside. While typical mages might have been overwhelmed by such bombardment, Divine Armor warriors ignored it and fired back directly.
The spells cast by warriors inside, amplified by magic amplifiers, were almost as powerful as those of Sanctuary mages! However, the downside was clear; because spells needed to be cast through amplifiers, there was a slight delay in casting compared to direct spells, a delay long enough for mages of Sanctuary strength to dodge.
Thus, even with their agility and intrinsic strength, the Sanctuary warriors from The Divine Auffa Empire couldn’t pose a threat to the thick armor of the Divine Armor.
Conversely, despite their heavy armor advantage, the Sanctuary Empire’s Divine Armor warriors struggled to keep up with the Sanctuary warriors because of their lack of agility and spell-casting delay.
Once the battle reached a standstill, it became a contest of endurance.
Whoever could last longer would win.
The Sanctuary mage-level warriors were using their own mana, whereas the Divine Armor warriors were drawing from the core power inside the armor. Theoretically, the Divine Armor warriors had a greater reserve of energy, but because they had continuously to share energy to resist external magical interference, the core’s energy consumption was also astonishing.
In the end, when the Sanctuary mages’ firepower began to wane, the offensive and defensive capabilities of the Divine Armor warriors also started to falter.
"It seems, this will be an evenly matched battle,"
said Long Yi.
Both emperors were reluctant to accept it but had to admit that neither side had managed to gain an advantage, resulting in a handshake and a truce.
"Have you ever considered, if your warriors had both the strong defense of the Divine Armor and their own formidable strength, wouldn’t that be better?"
The emperors were obviously tempted but had yet to take action.
"Alright then, let me put it this way, both technologies originally belonged to us..."
Before Long Yi could finish his sentence, almost all the emperors shouted out in unison, "I agree!"
Before the weight of Long Yi’s previous statement, all other concerns seemed insignificant.
At this moment, the two emperors had never felt such an unspoken agreement between them, and they both realized they had been somewhat carried away lately, or perhaps Long Yi and Ai Lin had seemed rather agreeable recently. Maybe it was because they had just returned from the Ancient Mage Tower; the two emperors had somewhat forgotten what kind of personalities these two really had.
Now, a single statement from Long Yi had made them remember: Long Yi was still the same Long Yi as before, unchanged.
Actually, all the worries were only on the side of the emperors. As for the soldiers, they naturally hoped for as many means as possible to enhance their strength. When the emperors of the two nations announced that they would share technology between their countries, all the soldiers became excited. The soldiers of The Divine Auffa Empire coveted the nearly invincible defense of the Divine Armors from the Sanctuary Empire, while the soldiers from the Sanctuary Empire envied the powerful magic strength of The Divine Auffa Empire.
With the emperor’s approval, the exchange between the two sides immediately flourished.
Of course, this was no longer a concern for Long Yi.
At this moment, Long Yi was on a certain planet, ruled by a country of medium strength, which now had its entire military power completely controlled by the Ancient Mage Tower, leaving the emperor extremely stifled.
Of course, Long Yi didn’t care about this either.
The only thing Long Yi cared about was that Mage Landers, who had fled from the Sanctuary Empire, seemed to have appeared here.
To ensure he could leave this place smoothly and enter the middle plane, Long Yi dared not pin all his hopes on defeating Elma and taking back the key. Long Yi believed he could easily defeat Elma, but what if that old bastard lost the key, or destroyed it? So, it was imperative for Long Yi to find Landers and find out what the Reverse Summoning magic was all about. Once he learned Reverse Summoning, Long Yi would have no more worries. Whether he planned to stay here and play to death with Elma or leave immediately, it would be up to him.
Therefore, Landers was crucial.
This was the Imperial City of that country, and the emperor resided in the tallest building complex in the front. The streets were quite bustling, and in the three days that Long Yi had been here, he had witnessed five instances of Ancient Mage Tower members bullying others.
In the Imperial City, there were a hundred mages from the Ancient Mage Tower stationed; their strength was all above the Sanctuary level, so they acted with impunity. It wasn’t just about strength—what was worse was their inherent disdain for the ’surface dwellers’ as residents of the Ancient Mage Tower, which led them to treat all surface dwellers like serfs, commanding and scolding at will while everyone, from the Emperor to the common folk, dared not say a word against them.
In Long Yi’s view, they were a bunch of utter fools.
Concerning such matters, Long Yi couldn’t be bothered to intervene as he had more important things to do. He was constantly searching for clues about Landers and did not want to stir up any trouble here. If Landers were scared away, who knew when he would find him again.
But sometimes, not looking for trouble doesn’t mean trouble won’t come looking for you.
Having learned that Landers occasionally showed up in a certain tavern, one morning, Long Yi found an inconspicuous spot in the farthest corner of the tavern, ordered many fine wines, and began the process of passing the time.
But instead of Landers, he found himself waiting for three loud and brash fellows.
By their attire and demeanor, there was no doubt they were from the Ancient Mage Tower; after all, it was extremely rare to see such a group of people anywhere else in the plane.
"Boss!"
One of them yelled out loud, and the three of them sat down nonchalantly at the most conspicuous table.
As soon as they walked in, the few scattered patrons in the tavern immediately and quietly left. Seeing everyone leave, the three scoffed with disdain.
The owner almost wanted to cry, but he hurried over regardless: "Greetings, three most esteemed guests, may I know what you would like to order?"
But the three sneered in contempt, "What could you possibly have here? Just bring out your best and most expensive... but let me make it clear first, we don’t have your surface people’s money."
The owner quickly waved his hands: "To have such noble persons like you protecting us every day from threats, we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts, and to talk about money is truly embarrassing for us!"
Saying this, the owner personally brought over a few cups of fragrant, strong liquor. This was his treasured collection, which he would only take out when his best drinking pals came over.
Watching them handle the cups carelessly, spilling half, his heart seemed to bleed, yet he could only keep a smile on his face.
With a "Puh!" one of them spat out the wine, "What is this crap? Is this drinkable?"
The owner, who got sprayed all over his face and body, still had to keep a smile and say apologetically, "This wine is not to your liking? I will go get you another."
Another one laughed, "No need, my brother is just blunt. Actually, this lousy stuff is passable. Go on with your work; don’t mind us! But where is Nana? I just saw her come here, just let her wait on us!"
The owner’s expression immediately turned ugly, although he had long known what they intended to do, saying it so directly...
"Nana is not feeling well..." the owner said in a low voice.
"Not feeling well? That’s perfect! I’m quite a decent doctor, let me thoroughly examine her body!" the man immediately said with a loud laugh.(To be continued.
