Chapter 1224 - 972
"Hmm, makes sense! Attack together!"
The three charged in unison, with Fighting Aura and Mana erupting from all sides.
"Tsk, tsk, I’ve fought here twice, and haven’t lost a single time!" Isrile unleashed her magic and started bombarding the enemy with it.
She alone withstood two Mages, while the warrior powered by Fighting Aura charged straight at Ruosha.
Here, everyone knew that Isrile was the strongest, and Ruosha’s forte was her knowledge and research capabilities—her combat strength was almost non-existent! As long as they tangled with Isrile, Ruosha could be subdued in minutes! This was the tactic they had agreed upon from the start!
But things didn’t go as expected.
Two Star Devourers’ cores appeared in front of Ruosha and then expanded instantaneously.
Bang!
The warrior, covered in Fighting Aura, crashed heavily into the two cores, now the size of watermelons. The Star Devourers’ cores stood firm without budging, while he was sent flying backward.
"Idiot!" Ruosha said with a giggle.
"Asshole!" The warrior, enveloped in a surging Fighting Aura, produced a miniature Star Devourer from his personal space, clutching it in his hand. It immediately morphed into a battle saber, which he swung at Ruosha.
However, Ruosha calmly stepped backward, with the Star Devourers’ cores blocking her, instantly intercepting his attacks from every tricky angle. The saber kept clanging, its sound carrying far in the desolate little garden.
Apostles, attracted by the noise, hurried over and found the three locked in battle with Isrile and Ruosha! And to their amazement, the trio seemed to be making no progress at all!
Three grown adults, fighting two underage girls, were actually not their match!
Isrile singlehandedly took on two, magic streaming without interruption. The other two were bombarding furiously, their assault looking impressive, but to little effect. Isrile, on the other hand, timed every spell with cunning precision, and a slightest carelessness would result in a direct hit by her magic. Her spells always harbored some bizarre spatial effects. Even if a shield blocked them, the surrounding space’s fluctuations would upset their balance.
As for Ruosha, the girl with zero combat strength, she showed no signs of yielding before the fierce warrior. Two cores, swollen to the size of watermelons, orbited around Ruosha, shielding her from every attack! Although she was continuously defending passively, her little face tense but not frightened.
It was at this moment that a loud roar echoed from afar, "Stop fighting now!"
The shout came from Zuo La. Zemir, who had been secretly following Ruosha and Isrile, had informed him immediately, and he had rushed over at once.
Upon hearing Zuo La’s arrival, the two Mages quickly retreated, but the warrior assaulting Ruosha had bloodshot eyes. Hearing Zuo La’s voice did nothing to calm him; instead, he let out a furious bellow, his Fighting Aura roaring violently!
"Stop fighting now!" Zuo La shouted, eyes blazing, for Ruosha was a treasure beyond measure. If anything were to happen to her, their entire plan might change!
But the warrior, blind with rage, could no longer hear anyone. He roared, his Fighting Aura exploding and intensifying, the battle saber in his hand emitting a violent Resonance!
"Die!"
With a furious roar, the saber shattered into countless fragments in mid-air, coated with lethal Fighting Aura, bombarding Ruosha from all directions. Ruosha’s face showed extreme tension this time!
"Sister!" Isrile, having just caught her breath, roared, and then she was suddenly right beside Ruosha, pouring her entire strength into a Mana shield, trying to protect Ruosha, but the power of the shield was still no match for the full-strength Fighting Aura attack.
As the shield shattered layer by layer, it seemed that in the blink of an eye, the two children were doomed!
Just then, one of the Star Devourers’ cores emitted a strange cry, and the space near the warrior cracked like glass. His fierce face had not yet faded when he turned into chunks that littered the ground. Though he was dead, his skill had been unleashed, and Isrile’s shield was still being drained!
At that time, the other core also let out a strange cry. Isrile and Ruosha were swallowed by a rift in space, falling from the air not far away, while the original spot, without the support of the protective shield, was hit by a powerful strike of Fighting Aura, leaving a massive, deep pit.
Everyone watched with bated breath until the end. Zuo La immediately rushed to Isrile and Ruosha’s side, finding the two girls pale but only startled, with no real harm done.
"Are you two okay?" Zuo La asked.
"There’s a problem," Isrile said with a grim face.
"What happened?" Zuo La looked them over anxiously.
"..."
Without a word, Isrile, holding a panicked Ruosha, left the scene. The two cores shrank and continued to orbit around Ruosha.
Zuo La’s gaze turned cold. He glanced at the fragmented corpse, then at the people standing dumbly beside it, and he sighed deeply, "You explain this to the Elder Apostle."
In the following days, Isrile and Ruosha never left their dwelling. Zuo La came to check on them several times, but Zemir, guarding outside, told Zuo La that they wouldn’t see anyone.
The reason was simple. Ruosha had been scared witless. It was not the attack from the other party that scared her, but the death of that person.
Zuo La could only sigh in response. It was the first time in so many years that such an incident had occurred, and he was well aware that their faith in the Star Devourers was beyond question. However, this faith did not ensure obedience to orders, quite the contrary. Their fervent belief often led them to take an extreme course of action. Previously, their powers were almost equal, so even if they wanted to act out of turn, they had no opportunity. But now it was different, Isrile and Ruosha were just two little girls.
Damn it!
Zuo La rarely cursed.
The old Apostle had stayed in the shelter for several days. Upon his return, he immediately learned of the incident. He summoned all the Apostles, including the two survivors among the three culprits, to appear before him without delay.
"You mean, one core ripped through space to kill the warrior, and another core tore through space to save them?" The old Apostle listened quietly to Zemir’s account and asked.
"Yes, my lord, Master Zuo La also witnessed that part himself," Zemir said.
The old Apostle nodded, dismissing Zemir. He then turned his gaze to the two culprits standing with lowered heads not far away.
"Your actions are shameful to the point that others blush for you," said the old Apostle. The two culprits lowered their heads even further.
"Out of jealousy, you attempted to forcibly seize another’s knowledge, and, in a fit of pique, you tried to strike an Apostle personally chosen by the Star Devourers. Do you have any excuses for this?" the old Apostle asked.
The two remained silent, heads bowed. Clearly, the facts were as stated—what defense could they possibly offer?
"Since that is the case, I’ve decided to strip you of your Apostle status and place you in custody, to face the judgement of the Star Devourers’ will in three days," the old Apostle declared.
The two culprits went weak in the knees and dropped to the ground with a thud, completely despairing.
The so-called judgement of the Star Devourers’ will was not a trial but a punishment. The punished would stand defenseless before the will of the Star Devourers. During that time, their consciousness would blur completely, they would be at the mercy of others, helplessly spilling all of their secrets. And when you awoke, you had no recollection of what had been revealed! In other words, all those emerging from the trial would be privy to your secrets, while you’d have no idea what they had learned about you!
The mere thought of such a trial was enough to send shivers down the spine.
"What are we to do now?" Zuo La inquired.
After some thought, the old Apostle said, "We need to find those two children, apologize to them, assure them, meet all their demands, and beg for their forgiveness."
"Master, isn’t this a little too subservient?" asked an Apostle, a sentiment shared by a part of the Apostle group. These two little girls seemed too significant, which was utterly senseless!
"If you accomplished as much, I would be just as subservient to you," the old Apostle replied with a smile.
The man stepped back hastily, waving his hands and saying he wouldn’t dare. Some sneered at him disdainfully. Wouldn’t dare? If you had the ability, you wouldn’t dare either, would you? The man felt the cold stares, and he glared back unapologetically, showing no sign of backing down.
A procession of Apostles arrived en masse outside the residence of Isrile and Ruosha, only to see Zemir standing outside the door with a troubled look on his face.
"Zemir, what happened?" Sensing something amiss, Zuo La hastily asked.
"Master Zuo La, you’ve finally arrived! Miss Isrile and little Miss Ruosha, they..." Zemir began.
"We’re leaving," said Isrile, whose voice was accompanied by her figure, along with Ruosha, both now out of their Apostle robes and in ordinary clothes, walking shoulder to shoulder outwards. Ruosha, typically lively and impish, now looked gloomy and listless, her head down as she pulled Isrile’s hand.
"Leave, go where?" Zuo La quickly asked.
"Nonsense! Obviously, we’re leaving this damn place! It was bad enough being looked down upon before, but now our lives are at risk. We’re not idiots, why would we continue to stay here? Prepare a spaceship for us promptly, we’re leaving! I want to meet with the Emperor; he promised me the best laboratory setup. First, I get tossed into this wretched place, and now I have to be ready to fight for my life?"
Isrile rattled off complaints and then walked away, pulling Ruosha along.
"Please wait a moment!" the old Apostle said urgently, but Ruosha did not stop.
"Hey! The Master is speaking to you!" A few Apostles jumped out, blocking Isrile’s path.
"What, you want to fight me again?" Isrile demanded heatedly.
"What are you doing! Still trying to cause trouble?" Zuo La rushed over and pushed those few Apostles aside.
"Hmph, they’re just a couple of lucky girls. Go strut around elsewhere all you like, but to disregard even the old Apostle before our eyes!" the Apostles voiced their dissatisfaction.
"Oh my God, up until a few days ago, I didn’t even know who you guys were! So you’re saying you’re stronger than us? Are you more beautiful? More knowledgeable? Better at research? Or more recognized by the Star Devourers?"
Isrile pointed at their noses and asked. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, feel free to cast your recommendation votes and monthly votes at QiDian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
