Chapter 1231 - 979: The Boss Behind the Scenes
In order to figure out what was going on, she took a risky move; she extracted the Female Demon’s avatar’s soul from the body. Almost simultaneously, the body, which possessed half of the Divine Status, began to transform. First, its appearance started to resemble that of a Divine Envoy girl, and the previously restrained energy began to dissipate.
"As expected, you are here!" Little Zi smiled.
The newly awakened Divine Envoy opened her eyes, only to see Little Zi, whose powerful Divine Status made it hard for the Divine Envoy to breathe.
"Now, I ask and you answer," Little Zi said.
Suppressed by the Divine Status, the newly awakened Divine Envoy didn’t understand what was happening and could only nod her head foolishly.
It turned out that after a Divine General divided his Divine Status, all parts of Divine Status had only a fragment of consciousness. These consciousnesses didn’t know their mission and were merely asleep.
But hundreds of years ago, one day, all the Divine Envoys were awakened by a voice. It instructed them not to continue hiding, to reveal their existence, and to unite with humans.
No Divine Envoy had heard that voice before; they only knew it was a female voice, not from a god, nor from any Divine Envoy. And since that day, Divine Envoys had begun to appear, were found by people, and some people gained Divine Status.
"Did that voice instruct you to continue hiding while you were uniting with humans?" Little Zi asked.
"It did not," the Divine Envoy said.
"Then why do you still influence those you unite with to hide their traces?" Little Zi further asked.
"I don’t know, because I haven’t united with any human," the Divine Envoy said.
It isn’t a problem with the Divine Envoy?
What could the issue be?
Or is it just that those who possess Divine Status instinctively don’t want to be discovered?
That can’t be right, can it? How could such a vast community remain unnoticed? Where exactly did that voice that awakened all the Divine Status come from? Besides a god, who else could awaken all the Divine Envoys?
Why are there still so many secrets hidden in this mere Lower Plane? Can’t we just peacefully leave the Lower Plane for the Mid Plane?
Clearly, the consciousness of the Divine Envoy was limited; she could only provide information from after her creation, and she was completely unaware of what happened before that.
Under the pressure of the Divine Status, the consciousness of the Divine Envoy disappeared once again. Little Zi reinfused the avatar’s soul back into the body, and the body’s appearance returned to normal. However, the avatar pouted unhappily. Giving her precious body to someone else temporarily irritated her completely.
"It’s clearly my avatar, and your consciousness was independently formed from me; how can you show displeasure at me as if I could despise myself?" Little Zi said with a pat on the avatar’s shoulder and a laugh.
But as she spoke, she was suddenly stunned.
According to Long Yi, the entire Lower Plane only had a little over a thousand tetrahedrons. Even accounting for a previously mentioned multiple-fold error, at most, there would only be slightly more than two thousand. Yet at that time, the god had split his avatars up to nearly a hundred thousand! With such a vast number, how could there be only so few in the Lower Plane?
The multiverse created by the god comprised three major planes, stacked like a pyramid—the Lower Plane being the largest, the Mid Plane smaller, and the Upper Plane the smallest. If divided equally, the Lower Plane should absolutely be the highest. And if it was distributed based on strength, the Upper Plane should definitely have the most. Yet there were none in the Lower Plane, and no news had come from the Upper Plane. At least neither Elsa, Selena, nor Nim had mentioned any presence of Divinity Holders there.
Something seemed off. Could it be that most of the Divine Statuses had already been collected? A strong independent consciousness had awakened everyone? Thinking of this, Little Zi felt a chill run down her spine. She looked up into the cosmos, dark as if harboring monstrous beasts.
Stay calm, don’t scare yourself!
Little Zi forced herself to calm down. What she needed to do now was to gather more Divine Status and then find a place to meet with Long Yi. Such matters were better resolved by Long Yi; although Little Zi considered herself intelligent, she lacked Long Yi’s strategic mind. Or rather, her ability to perceive conspiracies was not as accurate as Long Yi’s.
In other words, she was not as cunning as Long Yi.
Mentally cursing Long Yi for a while, Little Zi felt some of her tension ease. She set off again, following the star map coordinates in her memory, Little Zi resumed her journey.
Had Long Yi discovered this?
Of course.
Such unusual events were definitely noticed by Long Yi, who was accustomed to conspiracy theories. Or rather, when he first saw only a little over a thousand dots on the radar, he realized something was amiss, but he didn’t show any sign of it because he didn’t want to frighten the girls.
Now, he chose to do nothing, because there was nothing he could do at this moment. Although Long Yi didn’t know how these Divine Status were awakened, he knew there was definitely a hand behind it all, pushing things forward. Giving up the Divine Status was obviously impossible now, so Long Yi’s choice was simple: either have the strongest Divine Status in the entire Plane or control all the Divine Status within this Plane to expose any conspiracy that might surface.
At least for now, he was quite happy, participating in several Divine Status battles every day, seizing some Divine Status, then strolling through the entire city. The whole city was almost symmetrically constructed; whatever was present on one half, the other half definitely had it too. Ordinary residents were not affected by the center line in this city.
It wasn’t long before Long Yi noticed that the pace of the two sides of the city seemed to be astonishingly in sync. It stands to reason that if one association was moving in a certain direction, if Long Yi were the president of the other association, he would definitely choose a different path. But here, the associations seemed to mirror each other; whatever one had, the other had too; what one discarded, the other discarded as well.
The conspiracy-theorist Long Yi couldn’t help but wonder if these two associations were actually being controlled by the same person?
This possibility wasn’t out of the question, especially when too many coincidences no longer seemed like coincidences.
At this time, in the headquarters of the Hand of God association, inside a locked study, two people, a man and a woman, each holding a glass of red wine, were chatting. Despite their different appearances, from the way they sat closely, one could tell they were deeply involved with each other.
"Last month, my reserve of Divine Power increased quite a bit," the woman said.
"I’ve remained the same here; looks like the pressure I’m giving you isn’t low," the man said, laughing.
"Hahaha, those fools would never imagine that both my Hand of God and your God’s Association are completely ours! We, husband and wife, have grasped all the Divine Status in the entire Plane! Those with Divine Status can only end up being workers providing us with Divine Power," she said, visibly excited.
"Come, let us try another flavor," the man said as he briefly touched the red wine with his divine power and then sniffed, "Hmm, the aroma is a bit too strong, not subtle enough."
The woman took the wine glass, divine power surged, and the red wine turned into an amber liquid.
"Let’s try my recent discovery instead, this one tastes better than red wine!" the woman said.
The man took a slight sip and his face instantly lit up with surprise, "Excellent! My dear, you really are a master at brewing!"
Flattered by the man’s praise, the woman happily used her divine power to create many types of alcohol out of thin air.
If any of the Divinity Holders saw them squandering Divine Power so carelessly, they might instantly become furious, because Divine Power, if used for creation, depletes at an astonishing rate. Yet, the couple didn’t care at all—in fact, only they knew that a massive amount of Divine Power was being gathered daily into a special device they had created. It seemed like most Divine Power was used on each member of the association, but in reality, the association members only had access to a fraction of it.
"Divine Status? What’s the use of Divine Status? Ultimately, only Divine Power is real! The presidents of the two associations willingly act as our puppets, and why? It’s because of Divine Power! The feeling of doing as one desires with Divine Power can be addictive!" the man said, hugging the woman and sneering.
"You got one thing wrong, my dear," the woman giggled.
"Oh, what did I get wrong?" the man asked, puzzled.
"They willingly act as our puppets for a very important reason—that together, we have more than six hundred times the Divine Status! Hahahaha!"
The man smiled slightly, and immediately, all Divine Status were released, causing great pressure to the woman with his more than three hundredfold Divine Status. But soon after, the woman also released all her Divine Status, resonating with the man’s, equally exceeding three hundredfold!
Almost simultaneously, Long Yi felt an inexplicable palpitation, and immediately realized this palpitation came from the Divine Status. Two incredibly powerful Divine Status were resonating! Long Yi knew this resonance well, because initially, he had used this resonance to pinpoint all Divine Status locations in the universe. Back then, he had induced resonance with merely a couple of Divine Status, which though detectable by Divine Status holders, wouldn’t cause any reaction. Now was different, as the powerful source of Divine Status resonance was clearly within this city!
Could it be the three hundredfold Divine Status he had discovered initially? Long Yi didn’t know. But if his guess was right, the Divine Status capable of causing such resonance might be two entities each at three hundredfold!
The situation was far more astonishing than he had thought.
However, Long Yi wasn’t worried, because at that moment, he suddenly felt Ai Lin’s contract!
As expected, Ai Lin had also arrived on this planet, and as their contract became clearer, Long Yi finally established contact with Ai Lin. They exchanged information, and knowing that the other was in the opposing association, they both implicitly smiled. Typically, this meant having an insider on the other side.
After exchanging enough information with Ai Lin, the next steps were quite straightforward.
Long Yi must find every possible way to quickly increase his own Divine Status.
And the Divine Status arena was just the place for that. (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit qidian.com to vote and support. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
