Chapter 1258 - 106 Dragon Clan Great War
"I can sense that the curse on you has loosened somewhat, because I can see some mana on you, but you don’t really think these pitiable mana enhancements mean that someone can help you lift the curse, do you?" Long Yi asked with a smile.
"Not a human," Slite said.
"Not a human? Could it be a god? Gods are no longer around." As Long Yi said this, a light bulb went off in his head, "Wait, are you saying that there is a Divine Envoy giving you orders? So who issued the command to attack the Giants a million years ago? Was it also this Divine Envoy?"
Slite shook his head, saying, "I don’t know, and even if I did, I shouldn’t tell my enemies. You came to me very frankly, but unfortunately, I cannot reciprocate your candor, you must die."
The Black Dragon immediately launched an attack, its breath engulfed in magic swept over, engulfing the silver light. Long Yi frowned as he examined Slite’s expression and then looked at the surrounding Black Dragons, then said to Silverlight, "Let’s leave this place."
Turning around, Silverlight accelerated with all its might. Although its colossal size meant acceleration was slow, once it got going, the speed was considerable. The breath mixed with mana struck, and Silverlight’s body of Shadow Silver underwent changes, becoming incredibly durable. These corrosive dragon breaths could not damage the inert Shadow Silver, and the prospect of chasing was even less feasible.
"Forget it, no need to chase. He will come back," Slite said.
On the way back, Long Yi sat cross-legged on Silverlight’s head, deep in thought.
"This doesn’t seem like your style," Silverlight said.
"What style am I?" Long Yi asked with a smile.
"No matter the situation, you must always take tremendous advantage before leaving," Silverlight said seriously.
"That’s with enemies," Long Yi said.
"Aren’t they enemies?" Silverlight was somewhat puzzled.
"Yes, but not entirely. In particular, that Slite gives me a strange feeling. His tone and expressions are filled with reluctance, especially when you compare him with the Black Dragons from the Human Realm who tirelessly hounded us, you will find these Black Dragons are clearly much more cautious," Long Yi explained.
"Because there is only one life to live; with no hope of the curse being lifted, dying here means no revival, so they have to be cautious," Silverlight said.
"Therefore, I say they are not entirely enemies. If we are lucky, we might be able to solicit them," Long Yi said.
"So I say this is not like you," Silverlight brought up the topic again.
"Then what should my style be?" Long Yi found the idea amusing.
"Your style is, of course, to wipe out anyone, human or dragon, who provokes you without considering the consequences," Silverlight said.
"How could that be, I always have to consider the consequences. But this time, I want to try; if they can find their way here, then perhaps they have a way to return," Long Yi said.
"That is indeed possible," Silverlight said.
"So, let’s wait and see how things unfold. Just now, they were only probing, not using their full strength," Long Yi said. "I am very worried about whether our White Dragon is truly a match for them."
When Long Yi returned, he briefly explained the situation, and Ai Lin agreed with his viewpoint. Now was not a good time for war, especially since the Emperor was still in the hands of the Black Dragons. Once war broke out, one could not ignore the Emperor’s safety. Especially this time, the armed forces of The Divine Auffa Empire belonged to Saint Jialin, but the current troubles were Long Yi’s. If Long Yi could not properly resolve this issue, it would become a big question whether The Divine Auffa Empire would continue to help Long Yi in the future. Although Long Yi and Ai Lin both had contingencies set up and would certainly not let the powers they had built turn against them, still, it would be a tremendous loss.
More importantly, another power was watching like a tiger eyeing its prey. The Ancient Mage Tower should have received this news by now, so would they take action? How would they act? Long Yi did not know, was not familiar, but these were definitely factors to be guarded against.
Rashly starting a war was inappropriate.
"Then, shall we borrow troops from the Sanctuary Empire?" Ai Lin asked.
"We can get the Sanctuary Empire ready, but it would be best to settle this matter here. On one hand, we need to rescue the Emperor, and on the other hand, Elder Berick, I need more of your strength," Long Yi said.
The White Dragon Elder Berick nodded, "Rest assured, we are bound by duty."
All the premises for battle are to avoid harming Saint Jialin, so rescuing Saint Jialin became the top priority. Currently, Saint Jialin was imprisoned in his own sleeping quarters with two Black Dragon Elders specifically watching over him, and outside, ten Black Dragons took turns on alert; it was impossible for ordinary people to get close.
Little Zi decided to disguise herself as a maid in charge of taking care of the Emperor and sneak in; her mental magic was strong enough to befuddle the Dragon Clan, let alone ordinary dragons, even Elder-level ones would have difficulty seeing through her. And to ensure the authenticity of everything, Long Yi would also engage in battle at the front, drawing all the Black Dragons’ attention.
"Remember, your Dragon Breath has an excellent range; never enter within the range of the Black Dragon’s breath. Just stay out of range and do point shooting. I will analyze various indicators in this battle, and if you can adapt well to the enhanced strength, then I will truly begin the surgery to lift the curse," Long Yi told a group of White Dragons.
By this time, the group of White Dragons was already eager to test the limits of their newfound strength. Ever since Long Yi had enhanced their Dragon Breath, he hadn’t allowed them to try it out.
The sudden appearance of two hundred White Dragons took the Black Dragons, who had long occupied the Imperial City, by surprise. The great battle between Dragon Clans that had been silent for ten thousand years suddenly began right here!
Long Yi still stood atop Silver Light’s head, with the White Dragons lined up beside him. These White Dragons felt the surge of Dragon Power within their lungs and watched the Black Dragons that were continuously drawing closer in the distance.
"Dragon Breath ready!" Long Yi suddenly bellowed, snapping some of the distracted White Dragons back to attention.
"So soon?" the White Dragons expressed disbelievingly.
"Dragon Breath ready!" Long Yi raised his voice and yelled again. This time, the White Dragons were sure they hadn’t misheard and began to charge up the Dragon Power in their lungs, taking in deep breaths of air.
"Fire!"
Though filled with doubt, the White Dragons followed the command. While their breaths were thinner than before, they were brighter and shot across three kilometers of space, striking the leading ranks of Black Dragons! Some of the White Dragons could hardly believe they could breathe Dragon Breath over such a distance. They shook their heads slightly in astonishment, causing the beams to veer off course, which scared them into steadying their heads so the pillars of light could remain focused ahead.
Unprepared as the White Dragons were, the Black Dragons were even more so. It was common knowledge that White Dragon Breath usually had a longer range than that of Black Dragons, but only by two or three times at most. Yet this time, the White Dragon Breath had been launched from three kilometers away! Despite the distance, which greatly diminished the Dragon Breath’s power, the White Dragons’ breath could accumulate damage—and especially being continuously subjected to it, the damage would continue to compound!
"All units, full speed ahead! Front ranks, shield with magic barriers against the Dragon Breath! Do not falter!" the Black Dragon Commander roared.
The front ranks of the Black Dragons had already activated their magic shields, converting the Dragon Clan’s seemingly inexhaustible Dragon Power into Mana to withstand the oncoming Dragon Breath. Although the conversion from Dragon Power to Mana was incredibly inefficient, it still proved much stronger than relying on their Dragon Scales alone.
The White Dragon Breath lasted a full ten seconds before ceasing. By then, some of the Black Dragons in the front were injured, with the most severely wounded having their wings burned through by the Dragon Breath, barely staying aloft on their magical power.
"Those bastards, chase them down! Tear those scoundrels to pieces!" the Commander shouted angrily.
Thousands of enraged Black Dragons screamed as they formed a pincer formation, aiming to swallow up the White Dragons entirely. But how could Long Yi allow such a thing to happen?
"Prepare the second wave of Dragon Breath!" Long Yi roared.
With the experience of the first round, all the White Dragons were ready. They furiously loaded their lungs with Dragon Power and air, their chests and bellies ballooning.
"Fire!"
The Dragon Breath blasted forth once more, and because the distance between the two sides had significantly closed, the White Dragons’ breath quickly struck the Black Dragons. Moreover, due to the shorter distance, the White Dragon Breath hardly lost any power, all its energy hammering into the bodies of Black Dragons.
Like their Human Realm kin, the enhanced version of Dragon Breath also accumulated power over time. The Black Dragons at the front had to engage in a rotation to endure the breath’s strength. If a Black Dragon truly bore the full brunt of White Dragon Breath from start to finish, it could very well be completely burned through!
After the second volley ended, both sides could nearly see the rage in each other’s eyes.
"Quick, fall back!" Long Yi commanded, and all White Dragons initiated a rapid retreat without delay. Seeing the White Dragons fleeing, the Black Dragons began to chase them desperately, and already, more than a dozen Black Dragons had lost the ability to pursue. Most of them suffered from damaged wings, but two unfortunate Black Dragons hadn’t been rotated out and sustained extremely high damage from the stacked Dragon Breath, leaving them severely burned.
But the Black Dragons couldn’t care less about their unlucky comrades; the White Dragons were within reach. How could they allow them to escape?
However, they had underestimated this band of White Dragons, or rather, the person behind them.
Ai Lin had not participated in the attack because she was preparing a series of incantations.
"Group ’Sail with the Wind’!"
A surge of Mana erupted, bestowing every White Dragon with the ’Sail with the Wind’ speed buff magic.
Based on one’s own mobility, the speed buff of ’Sail with the Wind’ was determined. The faster one’s own speed, the greater the boost from ’Sail with the Wind’. The effect was negligible on ordinary people, but for the highly mobile Dragon Clan, the spell’s effect was divine.
As the White Dragons rapidly withdrew under the support of the buff spell, the Black Dragons roared in anger. Then they noticed Long Yi. Shadow Silver was impervious to magic, meaning even friendly buff spells didn’t work on it.
"It’s the silver dragon! Her speed is slow! Let’s catch her!" some of the Black Dragons yelled. Then, they also deployed ’Sail with the Wind’ to speed up themselves, although their version of the spell was clearly inferior to Ai Lin’s, and their speed was significantly lacking, but it was enough to catch up to Silver Light.
Long Yi glanced back to see that the Black Dragons were in pursuit, tapped Silver Light gently, and said, "Transform into human form." (To be continued.
