Chapter 1655 - 1239: Research Legion

The so-called theory of the Heavenly Kingdom posits that the Divine Realm is a world created by the Heavenly Kingdom, implying that Divine Status and Divine Power should also originate from the Heavenly Kingdom. This should be beyond any doubt. The deities who support this theory have been researching in this direction and have indeed achieved certain results. Through certain spells and devices, they have been able to slowly improve their Divine Status and Divine Power; whereas the deities who advocate the theory of a sole deity believe that initially, there was only one god in the Divine Realm, an entity of infinite might, who later disintegrated for some reason, scattering his Divine Status and Divine Power to form the current Divine Realm. Researchers who support this doctrine appear more like zealous believers, convinced that by fervently worshipping this deity they can obtain protection, as well as attain Divine Status and Divine Power. In fact, these zealots are indeed continuously enhancing their Divine Status and Divine Power.

The two different factions argue incessantly, with neither able to persuade the other. However, compared to the Heavenly Kingdom theory, which requires continual research, the sole deity faction attracts more people because it relies solely on fervent faith. Nevertheless, in the past tens of thousands of years, most people have joined the sole deity faction for the stable improvement of their Divine Status, not for the pursuit of truth. Thus, despite the dwindling numbers, members of the Heavenly Kingdom faction view those from the sole deity faction with increasing disdain.

The above is the supplementary lesson Rom gave Darkness, as Rom is currently leading Darkness back to the research base.

"So, how do we usually conduct our research?" Darkness asked with curiosity.

"We seek out Ancient Divine Texts and decipher them. Of course, every time we decode a portion of the Divine Texts, we absorb a fraction of Divine Status and Divine Power from the ancient scripts, and thus we can improve ourselves. How about it, isn’t this much safer and simpler than combat?" Rom asked with a smile.

"It seems safer, indeed, but it sounds rather unstable," Darkness remarked.

"Well... there’s not much we can do about that. According to estimates, the Six Rings have abundant resources of Ancient Divine Texts, but they are difficult to find. After all, Divine Texts are even hidden outside of space before they are activated."

"Then, if we don’t contribute enough Divine Status on time, won’t our patron faction, Legion, become very angry?" Darkness asked pretending to be concerned.

"Yes, in theory that’s true, but in reality, we haven’t contributed Divine Status for thousands of years. They were very angry at first, but they dare not do anything to us."

"Why not?"

"If they forcibly take away Divine Status, it would only weaken us, making us slower than others in seeking Ancient Divine Texts. Moreover, we are part of the research Legion, and we have already declared neutrality. If they drive us out, they would not only be criticized throughout the Six Rings, but we would also quickly find another faction to join. And if we happen to discover key Divine Texts, the enhancement it could bring to the faction would be immeasurable," Rom said proudly.

"Ancient Divine Texts, you’ve mentioned them multiple times, but what exactly are they?"

"You should still remember the sole deity whom the believers of the sole deity faction worship, right?"

"Yes."

"The Ancient Divine Texts are remnants left behind by that sole deity."

"Wait, so do we also acknowledge that sole deity?"

"Yes, we acknowledge the existence of the sole deity because our evidence shows that this deity was indeed the first god at the birth of the Divine Realm. We believe that this sole deity was created by the Heavenly Kingdom, while those zealots believe there is no Heavenly Kingdom, and the sole deity came into existence on its own."

"So that’s the crux of the dispute."

"Yes, at the beginning, when our two factions argued most fiercely, there were always people using evidence to prove their point at every moment, and it was truly a lively debate. Sometime later, for some unknown reason, those people started to lose interest in the pursuit of truth, gradually becoming zealots and distancing from us. And since becoming a zealot allows for relatively stable increases in Divine Status, their numbers have grown."

Rom shook his head in resignation and said no more.

The research location of the Divine Power Origin Legion resides at the center of a galaxy, where a massive star formed entirely of pure Divine Power exists. Streams of Divine Power burn ceaselessly, with countless Divine Texts revolving around the star like satellites.

"These are the Ancient Divine Texts we have found and deciphered; it’s just that now it is incredibly difficult to find new Ancient Divine Texts."

"Because there are too few gods participating in the research."

"Yes, luckily, you’ve joined us," Rom said with satisfaction.

If it were any ordinary newcomer, they might have been moved by now, Darkness thought to herself.

But she is not any ordinary newcomer; she is a Golem, and her thinking at this moment is entirely rational. The thoughts of three hundred sisters are linked together, and they won’t miss any detail.

"Then, what about the other gods?" Darkness looked around, but neither saw nor sensed any other deities.

"They’ve all set off to search for Ancient Divine Texts. If it weren’t for my hope of encountering a newcomer interested in research, I would also be on the road searching for Ancient Divine Texts," Rom explained.
