Chapter 276 - 187: Triumph!
When everyone returned to the airship, the indistinct blood stains in the cabin alerted everyone that the same disastrous event had occurred here.
Dean Ma Deburg informed Long Yi that they had also been attacked, and a spy had infiltrated them. Thankfully, the Dragon Knights who were left guarding fought to death blocking the first wave of the attack, and the spy was swiftly eliminated. By the time the second wave of attack arrived, their own reinforcements had caught up.
In fact, what Long Yi was most curious about was what had transpired with the field instructor in charge.
That was what everyone was curious about, too.
Everyone was buzzing with excitement and triumph, eager to know exactly what had transpired.
The field instructor smiled, and then slowly recounted the events.
It turned out that back at the Dragon Knight’s academy in the White Dragon Empire, as soon as he had been appointed as the field instructor, agents of the Black Dragon Empire secretly contacted him, offering a large bribe in return for him acting as a mole. He immediately reported this to the Emperor who then issued a direct command to him.
Agree to their terms, and then act as our mole among them.
Even as a mole, the Black Dragon Empire seemed never to be able to find him until the final day when the performance competition began. He was instructed to divert all the Dragon Knights who were outside of the city.
So, after making their appearance, he secretly commanded all the Dragon Knights to head outside the city, feigning urgency. He then excused himself from the arena halfway through and rendezvoused with the Dragon Knights outside the city, before launching a counterattack.
That was the entire process.
In fact, it wasn’t until the airship crossed the border and the Dragon Knights of the White Dragon Empire started escorting it, that the people felt as if they’d escaped death.
Some of them fell asleep from exhaustion, such as the cook Mosquito and Wesley; some grieved for their fallen friends; and some couldn’t sleep from the exhilaration, as they had just secured a victory.
Elsa and Ai Lin were snuggling up to Long Yi, one on each arm. None of them were sleeping, yet none of them said a word. Long Yi was reflecting on the day’s lessons, Elsa was simply enjoying Long Yi’s warmth, and Ai Lin was still reveling in their victory.
"Elsa, what do you think will happen when you surpass the ten dragon marks?" Long Yi suddenly asked.
"Brother Long, that’s something I wanted to talk to you about," Elsa replied softly, "Lately, I’ve begun to hear a call from the upper plane."
"Huh?"
Both Long Yi and Ai Lin’s eyes widened in surprise.
"What do you mean by a call from the upper plane?" Long Yi asked, confused. "Is someone shouting your name up there?"
"No, not like that, it’s just a feeling. It makes me feel as if I’m about to fly, as though I belong there and should go back." Elsa’s face tightened with worry, "Brother Long, can you find a way to limit my power? I’m getting stronger too fast, even I can’t control it. If it continues like this, I’m afraid I’ll have to leave here soon, I... I don’t want to be away from you!"
Elsa’s eyes revealed an unusual childish look. To Ai Lin, Elsa appeared less like Long Yi’s girlfriend, and more like his daughter...
"I can’t limit your power, it comes from here after all."
Long Yi placed a hand on Elsa’s chest, feeling the elasticity and fullness under his palm, and the familiar energy fluctuations alongside it.
"I don’t want to leave you..." Elsa clutched Long Yi’s large hand, pouting and acting coquettish.
"Good girl, it will be okay, even if you truly go to the upper plane, I’ll catch up with you quickly." Long Yi gently stroked Elsa’s hair and whispered.
"Really?" Elsa closed her eyes like a little kitten.
"Really," Long Yi said.
"Hmm." Elsa nodded her head, then closed her eyes and enjoyed the warmth coming from Long Yi’s palm. At this point, Elsa didn’t look like the strongest guardian Dragon Knight of the White Dragon Empire at all, rather, she looked completely like a little girl snuggling up to her boyfriend!
"My eyes are nearly blinded by those three, seriously." Wesley muttered from behind.
"Damn, my eyes are going blind as well." the cook grumbled.
"I’m fine." Mosquito wiped away the tears glistening at the corner of his eyes.
The three who were supposed to be sleeping had somehow woken up and were eyeing Long Yi and the others. Suddenly, a wave of sorrow washed over them.
"Honestly, I refuse to accept this. As a dual Dragon Knight, even if my power increases slower, I believe I can catch up with Brother Long soon. But, I have to admit, his way with women, I probably won’t catch up with that in my lifetime," the cook said despondently.
"Aren’t girls these days all into baby-faced men? How can someone like Brother Long, with his rugged charm, still have followers? And each of them is more beautiful than the last?" Wesley said, puzzled.
"This is what they say about birds of a feather flocking together, perhaps?" Mosquito concluded.
The three of them once again turned their attention to the trio.
There was no need to talk about Long Yi, his regular face hid a violent nature. The fact that he took down three mutated Dragon Knights almost single-handedly was proof enough. Ai Lin didn’t need any explanation either; she was heavily influenced by Long Yi and her fighting style was incredibly fierce and brutal. Her personality was a bit weak, but fundamentally she was no different from Long Yi.
There was no question about Elsa. She was a well-known Dragon Knight guardian in the whole of the White Dragon Empire. Known as the Ice Goddess, she was cold to everyone and wouldn’t hesitate to start a fight with anyone who crosses her. One could even label her as Long Yi’s personality amplified. Moreover, it was said that Elsa and Long Yi had been childhood sweethearts. It could be speculated that Elsa’s personality was influenced by Long Yi!
All these could be explained, but what about the elven coach who had disappeared? How would one explain that? And then, there was the mermaid princess who was forever pestering Long Yi, how about her?
These relationships had transcended species!
"Bro, I think we may be falling out of fashion, and it’s probably high time to try the macho look instead of the pretty boy style. What do you think?" Mosquito suggested in a low voice.
"Makes sense! We go macho from now on!"
Wesley shook his head, his eyes filled with despair, "Give it up. Brother Long has some real depth! He has a huge advantage in areas you can’t see!"
"Areas we can’t see?"
"Huge advantage?"
Chef and Mosquito thought about it, and quickly adopted expressions of despair as well.
"Damn! What a massive advantage! Damn it! What are we going to do!"
At dawn, the airship finally landed on the brightly lit training ground of the sixth-grade academy. The Emperor and the Dean were personally waiting there. Upon returning to their homeland, some people were so moved they kissed the grass, while others loudly praised the White Dragon.
The Emperor and the Dean conversed and shook hands with everyone getting off the airship, respectfully paying their homage to each fallen soldier.
The last ones to leave the airship were naturally Long Yi and his team. The Emperor rushed forward excitedly, tightly grabbing Long Yi’s hand.
"Your majesty, please remain calm." It was the first time Long Yi had seen the Emperor so excited.
"If possible, I really wouldn’t have wanted you to go! But if you hadn’t, these people would probably never come back." The Emperor said.
"Your majesty, you are joking. As the master strategist making decisions from thousands of miles away, such a minor task does not even warrant mention." Long Yi responded with cheery laughter.
Maybe because he had journeyed into danger so many times, he did not take this level of danger to heart.
Seeing Long Yi’s carefree expression, the Emperor felt a profound sense of admiration.
"By the way, there’s something very important. Cough, cough. Please join me now." The Emperor said.
"Very important?" Looking around, Ai Lin was sleepy-eyed, Wesley, Chef, and Mosquito were basically helping each other stand up while half-asleep, only Elsa seemed to be in good spirits.
"Very important. Also, just you. Cough, cough." The Emperor said.
"Your majesty, have you caught a cold?" Noticing the Emperor’s constant coughing, Long Yi was surprised. In these times, seeing someone catch a cold was rare, especially among the Dragon Knights.
"Haha, no big deal. Just come with me." The urgency in the Emperor’s demeanor seemed genuine.
"You guys go on ahead, His Majesty and I will be right back." Long Yi told Elsa and Ai Lin. Wesley, Chef, and Mosquito had sleepwalked far off already.
The Emperor left with Long Yi, even without any guards. Long Yi was somewhat curious. What was the Emperor up to? Last time, he inexplicably asked a bunch of questions, and now he wanted to talk privately again? Could it be! A classic plot from a transmigration novel! The Emperor’s daughter has fallen for me! A marriage proposal despite all opposition?
Huh?
Thinking like this, Long Yi’s heart fluttered a little!
However, the next thing the Emperor said brought crashing down.
"Long Yi, you’re from the Giant tribe, aren’t you?"
Instantly, Long Yi’s fist was right in front of the Emperor’s face!
"I’m not your enemy!"
Long Yi caught onto the Emperor’s words, his fist morphing into a claw that clamped onto the Emperor’s collar, pulling him up to his level.
"Your majesty, I’m just a commoner, I don’t understand what you are saying!"
Long Yi’s expression was somewhat fierce. He didn’t expect to keep his identity as a Giant hidden for long, but after encountering the ancient relics, he became instinctively sensitive, especially since he didn’t know if the enemy who forced the Giants to leave was still present in the world.
So, when the Emperor exposed Long Yi’s identity as a Giant, Long Yi instinctively regarded him as an enemy.
"Look, Long Yi, if I were your enemy, I would have captured and tortured you before revealing your identity. Only after confirming that you no longer had any power would I ask you this question as the victor. Instead of carelessly falling into your clutches... cough, cough, cough..." The Emperor started coughing violently.
"Alright, your majesty, no more riddles, please. I’m a bit on edge lately and can’t really handle this kind of stimulus. I might inadvertently do something wrong." Long Yi put down the Emperor, straightened his collar, and looked at him with caution.
"Come with me, I have something to show you." The Emperor didn’t penalize Long Yi for his disrespect, his demeanor was still very calm.
This made Long Yi even more confused. If this was some conspiracy, Long Yi didn’t think the Emperor had any reason to drag him into it directly. With the Emperor’s cunning nature, he must have countless ways to draw him somewhere.
Therefore, this matter was worth pondering.
The Emperor hurriedly chose secluded paths, and the academy was very quiet in the early morning. As they walked, aside from their breaths and footsteps, no other sounds could be heard.
They arrived at the library.
"Go in." The Emperor said. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for it at qidian.com or its mobile site m.qidian.com. Your support gives me the greatest motivation.)
