Chapter 433 - 329: Power Reserve
The dense smoke was blacking out the sky, giving Sulfur Island a dismal appearance. Behind the dark distant mountains, red lights twinkled — a glow emanated from the erupting magma.
"Ethereal Light Shield."
"Air purification."
Long Yi cast two spells and immediately, the air became much lighter. However, the mana consumed was quite substantial, as the surrounding air was filled with poisonous fumes.
Both slowly advanced, taking the only path up the mountain. Suddenly, the path ahead was illuminated by a red light as magma began to flow down the path. Little Zi immediately raised her hand, releasing a cold gust of air, causing the magma to instantly solidify into slightly warm rocks.
Finally, they reached the top of the mountain, and before them was a massive pool of magma! And within the magma, several gigantic heads of the Demon Abyss Dragons were lazily floating, with only the upper half of their bodies visible, just like they were lounging in a pool.
"Ahem..."
Long Yi pretended to cough, and immediately nine huge heads emerged from the magma and came before Long Yi.
"A human?"
A deep voice echoed as the biggest head in the center leaned in to ask, the sulfur breath it exhaled severely depleted Long Yi’s mana.
"Not exactly?"
Long Yi replied with a counter-question.
"I can smell the royal bloodline from you, you are the Dragon Rider of the Crown Prince."
The massive Dragon head replied.
"True, you are correct. Your acute sense of smell is really admirable."
Long Yi praised sincerely. In this atmosphere saturated with sulfur, that it could still smell Bajie’s scent from him was beyond the league of a dog’s nose.
"One hundred and thirty years ago, Prince Tyl told us to hide here. He said that one day a Dragon Rider of the Crown Prince would come visit us, marking our return to the battlefield. So, tell me, respected Dragon Rider, is that day today?"
Tyl... Prince...
Long Yi really felt like laughing, however, thinking of Tyl’s current situation, it was hard for him to chuckle.
This Tyl was indeed quite a remarkable fellow, who had been planning for a long time. One hundred and thirty years ago, how did he foretell events of today?
"My name is Long Yi, I bear the bloodline of the Giants and I am Bajie’s knight —Bajie being the son of the Demon Abyss Dragon. I have come to you seeking your help," Long Yi stated earnestly.
"The Giant bloodline!"
"The honorable Giant!"
The surrounding eight dragon heads began to murmur in surprise.
"Silence!"
The dragon head in the center roared.
"Honorable one, forgive my impertinence, but I need proof from you as you do not appear to be a giant."
Long Yi nodded, then took out the Giant’s scepter from his private space. As he infused it with the power of the Giants, it instantly radiated with brilliant light.
"The Giant’s Scepter! Only the power of Giants can evoke it! You really are a Giant!" cried the animated dragon head in the center, "Does it mean that after so many years, the Giants are finally coming back to right the wrongs of the past? Please allow us to be your vanguard! We promise not to allow any disgraceful Dragon Clan of the Human Realm to escape! They will pay for their past acts!"
Observing the frenzied roaring from the nine dragon heads, Long Yi was breaking into a cold sweat.
"Actually... it hasn’t come to that point yet. The Giant power I possess now has been sealed, and I likely need to complete the human warfare first," Long Yi admitted.
"Whatever the warfare, just command us, we have been resting too long."
The Demon Abyss Dragons clearly had a strong desire to fight, even now they were in eager expectation of a grand battle!
"Please don’t rush, a real grand battle will soon come, just not now. Could I know how many Demon Abyss Dragons are there currently on Sulfur Island?" Long Yi inquired.
"As you can see, only nine of us."
"Good, you will be a strong aid to us! Now, you only need to wait a bit longer. It won’t be long until the continent will experience turmoil and a battle will be imminent. Then, you will cast the shadow of death on every land beneath your wings!"
The dialogue on Sulfur Island was easier than Long Yi had expected, he had even prepared many words of persuasion. However, he could have never anticipated that these Demon Abyss Dragons were actually waiting for him.
It was clearly Tyl’s behind-the-scenes contributions.
Unsure what this old dragon was planning, looking on comprehensively, he appeared to harbor resentment towards his own country. While being a Guardian Dragon of the Black Dragon Empire, he had given his child—a Demon Abyss Dragon, to a White Dragon Knight. Furthermore, he has allowed the White Dragon Empire to gain nine Demon Abyss Dragons. What could the Black Dragon Empire have possibly done to anger Tyl this much?
Eight hundred years ago, Tyl’s Dragon Knight was killed by his peers in what was reported to be just an accident. At that time, the furious Tyl almost caused a revolution in the Black Dragon Empire. The final outcome remains unknown, but after that, Tyl calmed down. Since then, he has continued to protect the Black Dragon Empire using the status of a Guardian Dragon, keeping in balance with the Dean of the White Dragon Empire.
But why is Tyl still doing this?
Clearly, he wasn’t satisfied. Despite nearly sparking a revolution in the Black Dragon Empire, he still wasn’t satisfied. He clearly intended to do more.
Did he want to destroy the Black Dragon Empire?
Right?
Impossible, no?
It made no sense!
Long Yi was increasingly perplexed.
Even by the time Long Yi returned to the Dragon Knight Academy, he still couldn’t figure out.
Thus, he decisively gave up on trying to understand. The world of the intelligent wasn’t something he was supposed to pry into. If there was a chance to beat the smart one into spilling the beans, wouldn’t that be simpler?
At this time, the entire Empire’s hunting expedition had finished, and the Dragon Riders had harvested their bountiful rewards. Isrile was stuffed full after hiding in her dormitory.
"Brother Long, guess how many big demons I’ve destroyed?" Ai Lin started boasting in the dining hall.
"Ten!" answered Long Yi.
"Sixteen!" replied Ai Lin excitedly.
"Impressive!" Long Yi patted Ai Lin on the head as he happily responded. Being able to destroy so many demons on her own clearly signified Ai Lin was finally able to fight independently.
"Brother Long, guess how many big demons we’ve destroyed?" Wesley also leaned in, mimicking Ai Lin’s tone.
"One," Long Yi immediately responded without thinking.
A silence descended upon everyone immediately.
"Brother Long, how can you belittle us like this, can we still be friends?" The cook started pounding on the table in protest.
"Exactly! Dare to say only one, can we still fight together happily in the future?" Mosquito joined in, pounding on the table as well.
"Could it be...," I underestimated them?
"Yes! That’s right! Just one!" The cook and Mosquito responded in unison.
"Damn it! You two..." Long Yi was at a loss for words.
"But we contributed sixteen assists!" Wesley quickly added.
"Yeah, yeah, thanks to these three, none of the big demons we encountered escaped. Wesley coordinated our assault, while the cook and Mosquito diverted and attracted the enemy, and I just focused on dealing damage!" Ai Lin quickly said.
"Teamwork!" Long Yi gave them a thumbs up.
"Yeah! We are a team!" Everyone else responded excitedly.
"It’s only because I wasn’t there," Isrile said with a pout.
"Don’t worry, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to join in soon."
Since it was still class time, there weren’t many people. Only a few groups were sporadically seated around the spacious dining hall, and their laughter echoed through the space.
"Hey, quiet over there, this is a dining hall!" A group of diners yelled.
"Sorry!"
Long Yi raised his hand to apologize, clearly it was his mistake.
The people on the other side returned to their low whispers after receiving the apology. Suddenly, one of them looked up and, after a moment of confusion, whispered something to the others before quickly walking over.
"Are you Long Yi?" the stranger asked curiously.
"Yes, I am Long Yi." Seeing the stranger’s confusion, Long Yi became curious. After all his antics, could there be anyone in this world who still didn’t know him? Long Yi took a closer look at the stranger. His clothes were in neither the traditional fashion of the White Dragon Empire nor the academy’s uniform and were full of foreign charm.
"Hello, Mr. Long Yi, we have been waiting for you for several days!" the stranger said excitedly.
"Waiting for me? Who are you?"
The stranger quickly stepped backward, and his companions from the dining table followed him over and stood behind him.
"I am a messenger from the Fertile Plains Federation. My name is Watuo, and these are my aides. We came here to discuss with you about your conceptualization of agricultural machinery."
"Huh?" Long Yi’s eyes were full of confusion. How could they know this?
"Please don’t worry. We are here at the invitation of your emperor. We are not spies looking for secrets, and you are free to test our sincerity at any time!"
The Emperor decided to disclose such important secrets to the Fertile Plains Federation?
Long Yi’s first reaction was disbelief.
Food is the foundation of a country. Every country in the world is striving to develop more productive and easy-to-cultivate grains. Although it’s difficult to improve the grains, increasing the cultivation area is much more manageable. However, without a change in manpower, it is impossible to increase cultivation area independently. From ancient manual labor, to livestock, to the current simple machines. Each technical revolution leads to larger farmlands.
Now, Long Yi has proposed the concept of large-scale mechanized farming. This concept is undoubtedly forward-thinking, but it has a high feasibility.
The Emperor agrees with the importance of Long Yi’s plan, but would he share this with others?
With a grin, Long Yi said, "Sorry, I won’t believe anything just based on your words."
Watuo nodded, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper to give to Long Yi.
The letter bore Kirei’s handwriting and was sealed with the Emperor’s jade seal.
Long Yi returned the paper, still shaking his head, saying, "Sorry, unless he’s standing right here, even if you brought the Creator God, I wouldn’t believe you."
Watuo looked a bit awkward. This letter was indeed real. It was handed to him by the Emperor just a few days ago, but clearly, Long Yi completely dismissed its significance.
"Well...Mr. Long Yi, we have come here genuinely to seek cooperation and assistance. May I know what we can do to earn your trust?"
Watuo was truly at a loss now. Would they have to make a trip to the Imperial City?
"Didn’t he just say it? Unless I, the living person, am standing right here, he will never believe me."
The voice came from the side. It was indeed the White Dragon Empire’s Emperor, Kirei. Currently, the Emperor was dressed informally, and behind him were four bodyguards in full battle armor. They carried enormous swords on their backs, and the icy black metal rhythmically clanked with their steps, displaying powerful authority. (To be continued.
