Chapter 80 - 71: Long Yi’s First Time

Everyone knew that Magic Fighters cast spells through physical combat, which meant that when Ai Lin threw a punch at someone, it would bombard them with the complete force of her spell. If they were unlucky and got hit with a series of punches, even the simplest Magic Missile spell could cause serious harm, especially with the added effect of Double Spellcasting.

Could that blow someone to pieces?

When they thought about it, the three girls each shivered inside.

Selvi knew that they had probably bitten off more than they could chew today, as Ai Lin was far stronger than they had anticipated. People had always said Ai Lin was a prodigy but Selvi had never accepted this, believing herself to also be a gifted genius. However, seeing up close today, she realized just how different one genius could be from another.

Should they fight, or surrender?

The two girls standing across from Ai Lin were at a loss. Ai Lin was even using techniques from the fifth grade and she was a Magic Fighter! How could they possibly win?

Just when they were about to surrender, Selvi shouted out, "Dragon Might Descending!"

In an instant, an overwhelming Dragon Might pervaded the area. Dragon Might was the unconscious release of Dragon Power by the Dragon Clan. When this unconscious release was intentionally controlled, it became a tactical advantage. Any creature under the influence of Dragon Might would experience disruptions in their ability to harness power, be it Fighting Aura or Mana.

Moreover, this obstruction could not be shielded against by any magic because it originated from the primal force of Dragon Power.

This was Selvi’s ultimate contest card, a natural talent granted to her when her Mount Dragon evolved. By calling upon the power of Dragon Might Descending, she had been victorious in all her fair duels.

She had initially planned to use this move against Long Yi, but he didn’t bite, so she had to pick an alternative. However, to her, defeating Ai Lin would arguably be more satisfying than defeating Long Yi.

But, she miscalculated one thing.

Ai Lin was not an ordinary human.

She was a half-Dragon!

The power of Dragon Might Descending had barely any effect on her. Her Dragon blood instinctively rejected the foreign Dragon force and naturally expelled it.

Even though her move was ineffective against Ai Lin, it declared the start of the duel. Ai Lin slightly hunched her body, rapidly launching herself forward!

So fast!

Selvi wasn’t expecting her to move that quickly. She had initially thought that Ai Lin, who had started out as a Mage and then became a Magic Fighter for unknown reasons, could not possibly have the physical strength or explosive force of a Dragon Fighter. But as soon as Ai Lin moved, she realized how wrong she had been.

"Ethereal Light Shield!"

Selvi barely had time to cast an Ethereal Light Shield before she was punched. That small, silver fist struck Selvi’s Ethereal Light Shield.

"Magic Missile!"

Ai Lin called out.

Suddenly, magical energy surged on the silver fist, and a twin explosion shattered the Ethereal Light Shield into fragments.

The effect of Double Spellcasting made its first appearance!

Selvi felt her scalp tingling in fear.

So fast! Such powerful force, what do I use to block it? What do I use? What do I use!

Now, Selvi truly understood why Magic Fighters were known as Mage killers. They could easily break a Mage’s defenses, and once they got close, Mages could hardly resist them.

As Ai Lin’s fist kept getting larger in her view, Selvi had only one thought: "I’m done, I’m going to be disfigured this time."

The wind from the punch swept across her face, but the fist did not make contact. As Selvi opened her eyes, she saw Ai Lin had already withdrawn her fist, smiling at her.

Pulling a bitter face, Selvi could only utter three words.

"I surrender."

Once Selvi conceded, the other two girls had absolutely no courage left to proceed. Within less than half a minute, the duel had ended. However, Selvi felt a bit relieved in her heart. Even though she surrendered, the Dragon Might Descending did not dissipate! Yes, this was her true intention! She wanted to use it as an advantage to help Selun defeat Long Yi!

Watching the battle, Selun felt a bitter smile come across his face, thankful that his opponent was Long Yi rather than Ai Lin. Magic Fighters truly earned their reputation as Mage killers. Ordinary Mages were nothing more than sitting ducks in front of Magic Fighters, incapable of defending against even a single attack. If the duel were on a real battlefield, and Ai Lin had used some high-level magic instead of a Magic Missile with that punch, Selvi wouldn’t have survived for sure!

Ai Lin, looking at Long Yi who was watching from afar, excitedly gestured victory. Long Yi smiled and nodded. This girl, she’s really good.

Turning back to Selun, Long Yi said, "Now that you’ve watched, let’s get our duel started. Don’t worry, I won’t make your sister lift the Dragon Might Descending."

A blush appeared on Selun’s face. When Selvi had cast Dragon Might Descending, he instantly understood his sister’s plan. He hadn’t stopped her because he was indeed somewhat anxious about facing Long Yi. But when Long Yi so directly pointed it out, he was slightly embarrassed.

"Little sister, dispel Dragon Might Descending."

Selun sighed, speaking to Selvi.

"Second Brother!"

Selvi was anxious. She exerted Dragon Might Descending, facing the risk of disfigurement, all to help him secure the win. Why had he suddenly asked her to dispel it?

"End it, little sister, where’s the satisfaction in winning by cheating."

Facing Long Yi’s casualness, there was a taste of bitterness in Selun’s heart, but he also admired Long Yi’s demeanor. If it were him, he probably would shout in protest already, wouldn’t he?

"Actually, you don’t have to dispel it anyway, as you aren’t likely to win!"

Long Yi seemed to disregard his generosity.

Selun said nothing more, but his mouth was continuously chanting in the dragon language.

"Ethereal Light Shield!"

"Sail with the Wind!"

"Clear Hearing and Sharp Eyesight!"

"Tide of Mana!"

After adding these four consecutive buff spells to himself, the first three were the same as those used by Ai Lin, and the last one, Tide of Mana, was intended to enhance the damage of every spell he cast.

This was the standard duel setup for Selun.

Long Yi stared at Selun and suddenly began to cast his own spells.

"Ethereal Light Shield!"

"Sail with the Wind!"

"Clear Hearing and Sharp Eyesight!"

"Tide of Mana!"

"Burst Spellcasting!"

"Double Spellcasting!"

All kinds of colorful halos rose around Long Yi, except for his focused gaze, Long Yi had combined the boosting techniques of both Ai Lin and Selun!

At this moment, Selun felt as if someone was choking him. Where did this freak Long Yi come from? Ai Lin was a genius, she was a genius since childhood, and only became more so as she grew older. She had been studying various magic knowledge and consuming various magical elixirs since childhood. You, on the other hand, are the son of a mere blacksmith, so why can’t you just stick to blacksmithing instead of showing up here to scare everyone? Listen to that voice of yours, your Dragonese pronunciation is terribly unpleasant! Yet with it, you managed to cast spells! Has the world lost its sense of justice?

Too shocked to think further, Selun casually cast a series of offensive spells.

"Magic Missile!"

"Magic Lance!"

"Thunderstrike!"

It should be known that the choice of spells in a mage’s duel is very important. It is not as simple as chanting a few words in Dragonese, but also requires control over the mana flow in your body.

These three spells were a perfect triple combination in mana flow, with the shortest casting interval. He started with Magic Missile, regardless of the opponent’s evasion or defense, Magic Lance would guarantee to block the opponent’s path. And if the opponent could dodge Magic Lance, the following Thunderstrike could finally show its power.

Although the damage caused by Thunderstrike was not high, it was an absolute hit. And after being hit by Thunderstrike, one would fall into a brief paralysis, which gave the mage plenty of time to deal damage.

Selun cast all three spells in succession while rapidly retreating. He had seen Long Yi fight before and was wary about him suddenly rushing forward. Although this was a duel between mages, no one said that Long Yi couldn’t charge forward, right?

However, Long Yi did not rush forward, but rather stood still and assumed a defensive posture.

Boom!

Boom!

Crack!

All three spells struck Long Yi solidly.

Selun was stunned for a moment. What kind of tactic was this? Did he plan to endure the attacks with his own human meat shield?

When the dust cleared, Long Yi appeared. He looked at his arms and seemed pleased.

The Magic Missile had shattered Long Yi’s Ethereal Light Shield, and both Magic Lance and Thunderstrike had hit Long Yi, but there was not a scratch on his Dragon Scale armor!

This Dragon Scale armor really was strong! It’s difficult to break it with magic! It’s godly! Not only that, it could also offset a lot of spell damage!

He was relieved that he no longer had to worry about his clothes.

Long Yi didn’t waste any more time, and like Selun, he shouted three times.

"Magic Missile!"

"Magic Lance!"

"Thunderstrike!"

Selun was shocked, was this bastard trying to copy his technique again?

Just as he was preparing to counter, he realized that the Magic Missile was just beginning to form in Long Yi’s palm!

...

What a slow casting speed.

It really was slow.

Generally speaking, a beginner would use three seconds to cast Magic Missile. But as the mastery of magic improves, the speed of casting would increase. Now, Selun could cast Magic Missile within half a second.

Now, it had been at least five seconds, and Long Yi’s Magic Missile had just formed!

Moreover, this was Long Yi’s speed after the Burst Spellcasting buff!

As expected, you’re not a genius!
