Chapter 154: I Missed You
After packing the dumplings into the insulated lunchbox, Jiang Linyuan figured the timing was about right, so he made up some excuse and drove off.
The small village on a winter night was very quiet, as if it had been hidden away in the mountains, covered by the sky and draped in clouds.
It would probably get livelier later when the night deepened.
When Jiang Linyuan set off, light snowflakes were drifting down, sparkling under the headlights like silver sand.
He had a feeling the snow would get heavier tonight.
When he reached the village entrance, he found a car blocking the way.
The rural roads were narrow, usually only wide enough for one car.
Jiang Linyuan honked his horn to signal the other car to make way.
But instead of moving, the driver got out. From the figure, it was a girl.
Jiang Linyuan also stepped out of his car. This blockage really wasn't going to work.
He had dumplings to deliver to the Thief Saint.
But when he saw the girl walking toward him, he froze.
"Um, I wanted to ask, Jiang..."
The girl looked up, saw Jiang Linyuan's face clearly, and froze too.
Amid the fine snow, their headlights intersected, and their gazes seemed filled with specks of starlight.
Then, the girl's eyes curved as she smiled:
"What a coincidence, Senior, we meet again!"
With that, she ran over, wrapped her arms around Jiang Linyuan, pressed her face against his chest—tightly, happily.
She had never managed to grasp her connection with her Senior before, but that was fine.
She would just rekindle it, no matter how hard it was. She insisted on forcing it.
This feeling, she possessed it willingly.
The night was dim, dreamlike shadows heavy, the darkness silent, the moonlight like water.
Jiang Linyuan looked at the girl hugging him, somewhat dazed.
Her face was red from the cold, but the smile on it couldn't be contained.
"How did you get here?"
Jiang Linyuan asked.
"I missed you."
Yu Songsong buried her head in Jiang Linyuan's chest, smiling softly.
"Senior said New Year gifts had to be delivered on New Year's Day, so here I am."
"How do you know where my hometown is?"
"Hehe, I asked Senior's friend, that Huang Taoyan. She told me."
Wasn't this supposed to be the yellow monster's surprise? A few days later? Another smoke bomb, huh!
"You're in touch with her? Stay away from her, she's not right in the head."
"Mm, I'll listen to Senior."
Yu Songsong hugged Jiang Linyuan, unwilling to let go even for a moment. Like a clingy cat, she rubbed against his face:
"Where is Senior going? Aren't you spending New Year's Eve with family?"
"Just going for a drive."
Jiang Linyuan said.
Yu Songsong didn't press further. She smacked her forehead:
"Oh, right, my gift is in the car. I'll get it for Senior."
With that, she ran back to her car, pulled out a pair of gloves, and shoved them into Jiang Linyuan's hands:
"I knitted them myself. They're really warm. I made a pair for myself too!"
She waved her hands, revealing a pair of fuzzy gloves she had already put on.
"Where did you get the car?"
Jiang Linyuan took the gloves and put them on. They were very warm.
"I rented it. I thought I'd drive over to see Senior for a bit, and if possible, grab a meal alone together."
Yu Songsong said, smiling unconsciously.
"Then I'd go back."
"You can drive? I really couldn't tell."
"A poor family's kid grows up fast. You've got to learn more skills."
Yu Songsong linked her arm through Jiang Linyuan's, blinking: "Senior, come have dinner with me tonight. I miss you, I miss you so much."
Jiang Linyuan pointed at the car:
"First, move your car out of the way."
"Does Senior have things to do? Going out? Can't you spend some time with me?"
Yu Songsong asked.
"What kind of reunion dinner is just the two of us? Move the car. I need to turn around."
Jiang Linyuan smiled and patted Yu Songsong's head.
Yu Songsong froze for a moment, then joy exploded like fireworks inside her, full of excitement and elation:
"Senior, are you taking me home?"
"Hurry up and move the car."
Jiang Linyuan said.
Yu Songsong nodded repeatedly, her steps as light as a dancing butterfly.
After she moved the car, Jiang Linyuan turned around:
"I'll find a spot to park your car. Sit in mine for now; the heater's on."
He drove off with her rental car and parked it not too far away.
Yu Songsong sat in the car, looking around the interior.
Such a new car. Hadn't Senior driven it much?
Come to think of it, what was Senior doing going out so late?
As she wondered, her eyes suddenly landed on the insulated container in the back seat.
"What are you looking at?"
Jiang Linyuan got back in after parking the rental, noticing Yu Songsong staring at the container.
Yu Songsong asked:
"Senior, can I open it and take a look?"
"It's not great to eat in the car."
Jiang Linyuan said, opening the container. Steaming hot dumplings appeared before Yu Songsong's eyes.
"Chives and egg filling?"
Yu Songsong asked.
"Such a sharp nose? If you want some, we can eat them when we get inside."
Jiang Linyuan closed the container and handed it to Yu Songsong.
Instead of taking it, Yu Songsong grabbed Jiang Linyuan's face and kissed him.
Burning hot, her soft, moist tongue stirred wantonly, as if she wanted to devour him completely.
"That's enough."
Jiang Linyuan gently pushed Yu Songsong away.
Yu Songsong's eyes were moist, her face flushed, breathing slightly heavily as she leaned in again:
"Senior, I love you. I love you so much. So even if you find another woman, I won't give up."
Jiang Linyuan drove the car, wobbling back:
"I'm driving. Don't mess around."
"Mm."
Yu Songsong kissed his cheek again, then sat still, tilting her head to stare at his face.
It was wonderful—having the person she loved right there beside her.
Even though he didn't only like her.
"Is there a flower on my face? Why are you staring?"
Jiang Linyuan asked.
"Because I want to."
Yu Songsong didn't look away, just kept her head tilted.
"When you see my parents later, you'll stare at me like that too."
Jiang Linyuan said.
Yu Songsong bit her lip:
"Should I buy something? Would it be bad to come to Senior's house empty-handed?"
"You know that, huh."
Jiang Linyuan glanced at her.
"Make up for it next year."
Yu Songsong's eyes lit up again, and she smiled goofily to herself.
Jiang Linyuan said nothing, driving in silence.
On the road, the snow grew heavier. The fine flakes had turned into large, swirling snowflakes flying through the air.
"It's snowing."
Yu Songsong said, looking out the window.
"Pretty common, this kind of heavy snow. Feels like we'll need to shovel it tomorrow. Don't slack off."
Jiang Linyuan said.
"Mm, mm, mm."
Yu Songsong nodded. Heavy snow was common, but some people, some moments, were not.
This winter was cold and bleak, but she felt today was warm and bright.
"Senior, I love you."
"What? No other lines?"
"Senior, I super love you!"
"Why are you shouting so loud! You scared me!"
"Hehehe, why doesn't Senior try shouting too?"
"Keep dreaming."
Tsundere Senior, Yu Songsong thought.
